OT: Movies/TV Shows

I was surprised "Knock Knock" was so good. It stars Keanu and was directed by Eli Roth. Nothing particularly new in it, but quite engaging to watch.
 
I just watched '71.

Was pretty good. I liked it as I think it did a good job of portraying a young kid that doesn't really know what's going on thrown into the middle of a war zone.

Some pretty interesting twists.

I saw that at TIFF last year during it's opening screening. They had the lead actor and the director do a Q and A after the film ended.

As someone with Protestant English and Northern Irish family, it's a topic that is very close to my heart. It really demonstrated the difficulty that the neutral British Army had in dealing with hostile Catholic and Protestant militias.

Tough accent. I had some trouble with the dialogue. Especially that little kid that led the soldier to the Protestant bar.
 
I wanted to catch that this weekend. Del Toro looks a lot like my dad when younger. (My dad passed many moons ago). So there something extra when I watch del Toro in movies.

Where he looked the most like my dad was when he played Dr gonzo. (My dad had the same crazy hair when he woke up and had the 70,s Eliot Gould moustache. Coincidentally, the real Dr gonzo has the same last name as I do....Acosta. Weird
 
He was also an underrated Bond henchman

I really think Netflix now starting their own movies will change the industry a lot.

Another sign things are changing: The latest Paranormal Activity film decided to actually lose about 1500 theaters for opening weekend in exchange for being available on VOD with a month.

Seconmd Friday in a row I watched an Eli Roth Film. I really enjoyed "Knock Knock" last week. I thought "Green Inferno" was terrible.
 
Tore through season one of Fargo over the weekend......absurdly good.

It's a great balance of crime noire, black comedy and biting satire.......the writers/directors/cinematographers did a fantastic of capturing the Coens aesthetic, while mixing in plenty of the philosophical/existential queries they're known for.

Looking forward to digging in to season 2, even though it's a whole new cast/story.....intrigued to see if Noah Hawley can pull it off a second time, because his script for season one was fantastic.
