OT: Movies/TV Shows

man it's hard to pick my favorite penguin.

the fact burton actually turned him in a half human half penguin was pretty awesome tho.

I had one of these as a kid (but as any normal kid would do, I played the shit out of it rather than keeping it in mint condition with the box):

as good as Oldman was i think Wright might be an even better commissioner gordon.

turturro also a kickass carmine falcone. too bad they couldn't keep him for The Penguin.

and let's be fair - Affleck was a pretty damn good batman.

It’s a sin he didn’t get a proper adaptation of the Dark Knight Returns…..because he was the living embodiment of the comic character, in that suit.

and yeah, I stopped short of saying Wright was the better Gordon than Oldman, but it’s absolutely true.

Only Brian Cranston voicing him in Year One, was a better Gordon imo. That was perfection.

It is interesting that the show lasted way longer than the Korean war.
But about as long as America's time in Vietnam, which is the war that MASH was actually talking about.

The Korean war was, pound for pound a bloodier war than Vietnam. The US, in only 3 years of fighting, saw 36,000 of its soldiers killed. They spent a decade in Vietnam and lost 58,000.

Saw you guys discussing MASH a few pages back, and am not sure if it was mentioned…..but in the UK MASH was aired without a laugh track and was played much more straight/with a dark humour sensibility….while in the North America it had canned laughter and a much more punchy/camp feel to it.

Also @LeafOfFaith , I’d chime in that you should watch MASH if for nothing else because Alan Alda is one of most entertaining & engaging characters in TV history, that has a “prestige TV” level character arc. Hawkeye is almost a prototype for the Don Draper, Tony Soprano, Walter White series we’d get decades down the line.

I’d love to go through the series start to finish if I could, without the laugh track….shame it’s not streaming anywhere without it, to my knowledge.

People who think that comic book movies are deep and worthy of thoight or discussion are generally not serious people.

Didn’t you claim movies can’t be made or lost in the editing…..and also hate ‘Thin Red Line’ & Malick?

If I’m remembering that correctly, I’d say that disqualifies you from commenting on anyone’s ability to be a serious person when it comes to TV & Film. 😋
