OT: Movies/TV Shows

It says in the article they had three dogs. The dead one was found locked in its crate inside a closed bedroom closet near Hackman’s dead wife, while the two that survived had the run of the house and presumably were able to drink enough out of the house’s toilets to survive until help came.

So, she probably put the dog in there for nap or something, then suddenly died before being able to let it out. And then the dog most likely died of thirst since the only other person in the house for the next week was a 95-year old completely debilitated with Alzheimer’s who subsequently died himself.

And if Hackman was that far gone, hunger/thirst and/or being off his meds probably contributed heavily to his death as well.
He officially died of heart disease, so I guess not taking his medication. did him in.
I believe the dog just had surgery and that's why it was the one in the kennel. It might have required medication as well(Aside from lack of food/water).
Still a little strange his family didn't check-in. So much for having kids to help take care of you when you get old.

My Grandmother lived with me with advanced Alzheimer's. It is just a horrific way to end your life.
My mom has Parkinson's which comes with hallucinations and dementia baked in. She's physically healthy enough that she could live another 5 years but she's already gone. Confined to a wheelchair, in a diaper, and half the time she thinks my brother is the TV repairman and that my dad, who died in 2022, is having an affair with a woman down the hall at the care home.

Daredevil: Born Again is somewhat promising. Although, the first fight scene in episode 1 was terrible. It looked like a video game... luckily, they changed it up and subsequent fight scenes seem to be a lot closer to how they looked on Netflix.

It's a bit early to tell for sure, but I don't think the Marvel/Disney take will be as good as Netflix. That's mostly due to the very high bar that Netflix set though.

Netflix probably wouldn't be able to hit that bar anymore either.

The first Daredevil series was back when they still focused on creating a small number of high quality shows. As opposed to the current strategy of spraying out a firehose of mediocre crap that all gets cancelled after a season or two.

I just found out that Pluto TV is now available in Canada if anyone is interested. Lots of old and new stuff on there and it's free

Lots of commercial breaks in the Live TV section and you can't pause it, I haven't checked out anything on the On Demand section yet.

Recently watched the Good the Bad and the Ugly for the first time and holy shit. Leone is so good.

The first thing you notice is oh this is where Tarantino comes from.

Also, loved how slapstick funny parts are. The bridge scene could be out of a Monty Python/Mel Brooks movie.
Leone is supposed to have wanted the three hired guns going after Charles Bronson in the beginning of "Once Upon a Time in the West":

to be played by Eastwood, Cleef and Wallach but that didn't work out.

He did say it was inspired by the classic train scene in buster keaton's The General, so that tracks.

Highly recommend going back and watching Fistfull of Dollars and a Few Dollars More. Neither quite as epic as GBU (or as comic) but both great in their own right.

Funny because the casting in this one is the main reason it doesn't work as well for me. He was obviously casting against type with Bronson as the good guy and Ford as the bad guy but neither quite worked for me.

Also, i never quite loved morricone's harmonica theme from this one as much as his whistle theme in good bad and ugly.

In some ways Once Upon a Time is the best of them but for me these two issues keep GBU ahead of it.

The older you get, the better and better Sergio Leone flicks are on rewatches too.

‘Once Upon a Time in America’ is fucking incredible too, especially the extended versions that weren’t all chopped up for American release originally. Doesn’t get nearly the accolades it deserves for how epic it is.

It’s Leone’s Godfather I & II basically, but in one film.

High Noon was the best Western ever because John Wayne hated it.

He thought the idea of a Sherriff marrying a Quaker and disavowing violence was un-American (i.e. gay)

It’s crazy how goddamn gorgeous it is visually too, for having been shot in 1952…..I don’t know if the digital version I bought was a 4K restoration or something, but christ it was incredible looking.
