OT: NFL thread

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

Hard to blame any one player when the entire team didn't get to work until the 2nd half. Garrett made the right adjustments but he took to long.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

Cowboys' problems are that the owner is way too much into the everyday football operations....he basically had appointed Garrett as the next head coach of the team 2 years ago while they still had a head coach....that undermined the actual head coach...and now that Garrett is the coach, expectations are sky-high.

Jones needs to be more like Kraft

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

First two coaches fired: Steve Spagnuolo (St. Louis) and Raheem Morris (Tampa Bay).
No real shockers there.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

Tampa was suppose to surprise...they will only get better however

JJ is the team's GM. He actually played college football.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

Yeah was going to mention that Jones is the GM as well. The Cowboys have a bunch of offensive stars IMO but I think they will need to trade some like Austin or Bryant in order to address their secondary which has been beaten for 2 straight years now. Robinson seems to be Romo's favorite receiver now anyhow... after Witten.

I was wondering if Jones had any inclining to go after Luck and the #1 draft pick this summer?

As what, Romo's backup or replacement? Is Jones patient enough right now to start over with a rookie QB,no matter how talented he is suppose to be? Would he be willing to pay the Colts price for the 1st pick, which will be VERY HIGH? I think will go after a better backup QB, one who can challenge Romo to be better in order to keep his job and maybe trade one of his receiver for help in the secondary. The question I see is will Rob Ryan be back? The suggestions I hear is that his system does not fit the talent, so once has to change. Maybe the St. Louis pick and Griffin III is a more likely target.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

Colts should do the impossible.....but it's the right decision long term : trade Manning

Sam Pollock would have done it (but this is NFL, not hockey)

Well I'm just speculating myself about Jones going after the #1 pick but ultimately I am thinking of someone who could replace Romo in the years ahead and few have the pedigree that Luck seems to have attached to him.

I like Rob Ryan but he had no time to set-up the defense after the strike ended and that secondary is just plain awful. It totally wipes out a pretty good d-line that can blitz quite often but what's the point when the opposing QB just lofts the ball up in the air and it is caught most of the time. I could catch a pass in the Cowboys secondary.

This is a turning point for the team, whether to hang on to the past (Manning) for the next few years or go fully in to the future (Luck). You have to remember that Manning has a huge impact in terms of salary (both cap and real money) on any team interested, so the market will be smaller than if it was based on just talent. This is not to say that what the Colts will want for Manning will be cheap. The Manning situation will impact what the Colts do in the draft, Free agency, what they do with their own FA's Wayne/Saturday/Mathis etc and their coaching staff. If they decide to move Peyton, I think it will be the start of a major house cleaning with other veterans plus Caldwell and his staff being moved out the door.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

The Colts just FIRED Bill Polian!!!! Anything can happen now, depending on WHO they bring in to run things.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

I just can't see Manning being dealt... he has done more for that franchise than can ever be measured.

On the other hand if he joined the Cowboys... wow... that is dream land stuff.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

Manning in Dallas is a win-win for everyone....he will not be in a bigger market than being the QB of the Dallas Cowboys...and he instantly makes them a contender

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

I think with the Polian gone, the chance of Manning be moved has increased greatly. They have the chance to hit the reset button on the franchise, setting its new direction for the next decade. I , for one, would not mind a change in the defensive philosophy, to one similar to the Pittsburgh/Baltimore mode. Unless the new GM is absolutely in love with Manning, I think there is going to be a new home for Peyton in 2012. I think that if the Colts were 8-8, this is not an issue right now. Being 2-14 allows the Colts to jump start the Post-Manning era.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

Colts were not well run the last few seasons. Peyton hid a lot of organizational flaws.

Re: OT: NFL thread 2011

Steelers making this interesting.....23-23 now...

Let's see how Tebow reacts....the McGehee fumble really hurt them...and Bailey dropping the interception in the end zone also hurts...

I guess it's up to Tebow to make up for his teammates' mistakes....
