OT: NFL thread

Be honest with yourself, if say Andy Dalton or Tony Romo made that throw, would you be willing to cut them slack? Wilson has not been criticized one iota except by Cowherd. Now one could argue that is because Carroll's hubris is to be criticized more, but one can also argue it is because Wilson is never criticized. He was terrible last week and didn't complete a pass for a quarter and a half yesterday. He gets away with a lot because he is perceived as a nice guy.

I'm very honest with myself and criticizes Wilson when he's playing poorly, like he was two weeks ago, or when he played the Cowboys. I'm also constantly defending Romo so you're talking to the wrong guy here. But this was a good throw, even though it wasn't the right decision and the right play call.

I think you're right but if they don't waste 20 seconds after the Lynch run they would have had sufficient time for three more plays if need be.

The wasting of 20 seconds was just moronic.

Wasting time was fine, you don't want to give Brady too much time to come back and score after our TD that never happened.

they still had time for 3 plays

1 -pass results in TD or Incomplete Pass (stopping the clock). Obviously, this ignores the third (least likely) scenario which actually happened. Pick!
2 - now with the timeout in their pocket they can either run (and stop the clock immediately) or pass
3 - run or pass on what should be the final play of the game

Personally, I give Lynch two pops to get it in there or Maybe try a fake and have Wilson scramble it in. I think Defensive Lines are pretty tired at end of games, so I wouldn't hesitate ramming it down their throat with my star back.

Anyway, if I was tempted to pass, I would have tried a fadeaway corner route. One of the reasons very few pass plays get picked off at the 1 is because they're seldom thrown in highly congested areas as yesterday's attempt.

too dangerous a pass down the middle like that, need to be precise and the pass wasn't

The guy did make a great play, including a great read. That play is not usually defended that aggressively.

interestingly, that play is part of the Seahawks playbook and Darth Hoodie made sure his teamed practiced defending it earlier in the week.

It was a great defensive play, yet it was unnecessarily risky to throw into traffic at that point.

exactly. why THAT pass?

instead of some type of corner route

If you are gonna pass, put Wilson on a roll out. Give him options.... if the endzone is open he can run in, if the man is open he can hit him with the pass, if neither is open, throw it into the crowd and save your time out, and then take two cracks at it with Lynch.

Wilson is not a pocket passer

You guys are doing what Carroll did: overcomplicating things. It was on the one yard line. The Seahawks have the best running back in the league and three tries to move the pile on friggin yard. You don't pass. You give the ball to Lynch and you win or lose that way. If the Pats stuff him short of the goal line then so be it. Tip your cap to them. But you make them earn it. Why even have Lynch if you're now going to use him in that situation? What's the point?

I agree but the argument is, if you run and he doesn't get in, then you have to call timeout and if on 3rd down there is a sack or a penalty, you run out of time. I would run the ball but Carroll's hubris took over.

He threw late in the 1st half and it was a mistake that turned out well so he figured he could win again. He thinks he is smarter than everyone else.
