OT: NFL thread

It's only a "bad call" if you were pulling for the Cowboys.

As for Romo, I will compare him favourably with the Rodgers' and Brady's of the world when he proves capable of winning a championship. Fourth quarter comebacks against similarly mediocre teams like the Detroit Lions do not impress me. You want my respect? Win something. Spare me the hard luck stories and the coulda, woulda, shoulda's. Just win something. Because up to now and for pretty much the entire duration of Romo's career, all I've heard from his supporters are a string of excuses as to why he isn't as good as they want the rest of us to believe he is.

I'd argue the Cowboys would be 5-1 if Romo wasn't injured. Only team they would have lost to is New England because shit, everyone's losing to New England.

For sure... the Cowboys QB search has been much like the Als in Montreal... you don't appreciate what you have until it is gone. The Cowboys are a flawed team IMO with Jones as GM and Garrett as coach but Romo makes up for lots of the holes those guys dig however eventually the Cowboys implode on themselves just like this Hardy/Bryant crap can only seem to happen in Dallas.

The bad call was agreed upon by plenty of pundits who are either neutral about the Cowboys or hate them.

I agree until Romo has won a championshiop he isn't in the same category as Rodgers, Brady and both Mannings but he is as close to that group as anyone else in the NFL and his stats alone are better than a lot of those guys.

I am not Romo's biggest fan but his absence this year is the Mona Lisa portrait of how valuable a player is to a team. He is basically like Carey Price who I guess is also a loser in your mind since has never single handedly won the cup for the Habs?

I guess Wehave thinks Dan Marino and Dan Fouts were mediocre because they never won SBs while he thinks Mark Rypien and Doug Williams are better than them because they won SBs.

Side note on Marino... check out the 30 for 30 "Elway to Marino"

Awesome.

Romo isn't as good as Brady or Rodgers, those guys are among the best of all time. Romo is in the second group behind those guys, with Brees, Rivers, Roethlisberger, etc.

Don't insult Brees and Big Ben by tossing them into a group with losers like Romo and Rivers. Brees and Ben have actually won something in this league.

I wouldn't call Fouts and Marino "losers" per se, but the lack of championships is a blemish on their records to be sure.

As for the "alleged rapist" I'm afraid you can't have it both ways. You have always been very flexible about off-field behaviour when it concerns a player on one of your favourite teams. You could scarcely be a Cowboys or SEC football fan without such flexibility. But if you're going to turn a blind eye when the thug plays for your team you give up your right to point fingers at thugs on other teams. Fact of the matter is that if the alleged rapist was a Cowboy they'd have won a lot more games than they have with Romo.

or if Romo had the Steeler defence, he would have more wins than your boy?

I admit though, it is impossible to debate haters like you as you just switch from team to team and use different players constantly to put down Romo. If you think that 7 is better than Marino and Fouts just because he won 2 SBs, I cannot help you.

and Cowboyfan noting other teams play less than desirables is not hypocrisy, it is only pointing out the hypocrisy in others. SteelerFan loved to tell the world they wanted good character guys unlike the Cowboys yet we all know what their injured QB is accused of doing and their backup was in jail for running a dog fighting ring. At least Greg Hardy was found not guilty unlike Vick.

I can compare them over the past 5 years when none of those guys (including P.Manning as well) have won anything. This is also consistent with the fact that Romo has been overall much better during that period than before.

Romo's awesome. He's my second favourite QB behind Tom Terrific. If the Cowboys weren't such an utter failure on speshul teams and coaching they may have won something by now.

Because I can think of several QB's who are better than Romo and also don't choke under pressure.
He has the best 4th quarter QB rating ever. I didn't say he was the second best, just my second favorite. He makes shit happen one way or the other which makes him very entertaining to watch.

From that perspective, yes, he's entertaining. But if I was a Cowboys fan, which I realize you're not, I would find him exasperating.
