OT: NFL Thread

Yeah and they’re obviously liable to be way off in the point total those players said….but even if it’s just a 5-6 point finger on the scale, that’s a massive influence. (Not to mention if the players get a real sense that they’ll earn calls consistently if they drive, for instance)
 
I’d love to see a meta analysis on fouls awarded in close out games, by round….and see what kind of tilt we did or didn’t see towards bigger market clubs.

Sure, but he's tried dragging people down with him for years.

Conspiracy theories are fun for so many reasons, but the problem with most of 'em is that once the person who claims said theory is actually put to task to prove the claims, they are all fail massively.

The games are fixed/rigged? I'm all ears. Show me the proof, show me the paperwork and show me the money. If your proof is, "They told me to!" and "Everyone does it, duh!" then why is Donaghy on an island with nobody, not a single fucking person, backing him and parroting his stories?

Because in situations where the games were actually rigged or fights fixed? There's documentation I can point to followed by serious consequences for those who did it.

because no one in the league (who could) has any vested interest in doing so, they’ve all been protected thus far.

Foster is the official who received 134 phone calls from disgraced referee Tim Donaghy between October 2006 and April 2007, as originally reported by FOX News. That was the same period during which Donaghy admitted to betting on NBA games. The report said that Donaghy called Foster more than any other ref and that he didn't call any other official more than 13 times.

The records also showed Donaghy making several calls to Foster on the days of games, generally for no more than two minutes.

The report also said that when Donaghy called Foster, he mostly used the phone that he dedicated to gambling-related phone calls, and the phone calls stopped abruptly when Donaghy said he stopped gambling.

So not a single person, out of the thousands that have worked throughout his time in the NBA, can corroborate his version of what happened? Not one former or disgruntled employee? Interesting.

That's wonderful... But what does it prove, exactly? Is it fishy? Yes, it absolutely is. But it could also mean a shitload of things and if the calls weren't monitored or recorded, then it'll remain his word against everyone else.

just ribbin…..your take is basically my take the last 20 years. But I think with the money involved now, Id feel more naive than not, believing nothing at all was a foot.

especially when we know they’ve always been willing to do….sometimes just out of mere spite …..at which point anything is possible, imo.

Even if it’s just knowing you’re more likely to get the call for the finals, if you play ball.
