OT: Politics & News... Have at it.

10 billion deficit for three years in a trillion dollar economy is nothing, you know it and I know it. Irony is that Harper has run six or seven deficits in his years in power yet when Trudeau says he will while building roads, transit etc, Harper soils himself.

Even a Harperite like you must have laughed when Harper, desperate to retain power, took out ads saying the election was not about him. When was the last time an election was not about the leader?

2 trillion

Why it's working for Ontario? Wait. No they had their credit downgraded and are piling up mountains of debt. I would be more worried about the implications of what a carbon tax will have on many consumer goods, it's just a tax grab. Our biggest trading partner also happens to be the US, and you know if Trudeau becomes PM there will be a bunch of companies pressured to not do business with a country who has a PM whose brother came out with an anti-us documentary.

credit was downgraded twice I believe. The lessons of Ontario don't matter enough, pity.

People are very 'what's in it for me, now'. Justin is the best man to feed that instinct.

If that were the case, I would vote for Harper and his Henchmen as I save a couple of thousand with him.

He can't remain in power forever. Hell, people voted out Chretien and Martin when they were doing great economically. People did not vote what's in it for me then.

and it was a bullshit scandal but of course Harper and his separatist allies played it up.

I like the Globe and Mail's endorsement. Endorsed the Conservatives but not Harper, saying after a win, he should quit asap

AdScam wasn't some little cockamamie scandal like you always postulate on here. It called into question the very integrity of our governmental institutions. You simply cannot mix up the operations of the federal government and businesses like that.

I agree with the Globe's position though: the Canadian Tories are in a comparable situation to the British ones in 1990 when Margaret Thatcher was voted out in favour of John Major for the sake of the party. The biggest issue facing the Conservatives in Canada is that Harper has made himself inextricably linked to the party brand, so it will be extremely difficult for them to promote party interests sans the head figure. Incidentally, that was the same problem the British Tories had with Thatcher: she was a political brand too.

It was a small scandal. If the separatists hated it, it must have been a good policy. In the end, it was a small amount of money although if you ask the little guy on the street, he will figure it was 2-3 billion.

I will give you that that secrecy of the plan and the kickbacks were not good optics but it was for a good cause, it was in a time of great fear in the country over a possible breakup. The goal was correct, the execution was not. The separatists did not care about the integrity of the governmental institutions, they were upset that federalism was being promoted in Quebec. Allegedly that was an affront to Quebecois.

Harper saw an opening to win and rightfully took it.

Martin never should have called an enquiry, those things never turn out well for a government on any enquiry. He should have let it slide into oblivion. Calling the enquiry ended up costing him the job he desperately wanted for years.

Oh Rabbit, where art thou?

We await your prediction.

Despite the latest trend in the polls, I will say: very feeble Conservative minority. The upshot is that they will not be able to govern.

Lapin reluctantly calls:

Get ready for a part time drama teacher to take the helm. Can't be worse than his father or can he ?

The noble Lapin reluctantly calls :

Liberals 136
Conservatives 118
NDP 80
Bloc 3
Green 1

You seem to align with Monsieur Grenier's stuff. I see the point, but I'm a little sceptical.

Anywho, enjoy your Sams, no matter what happens.

Harper taught at the University of Calgary.

True, he did lecture at the university of Calgary. Almost like someone who is paid to give speeches(Trudeau). Not exactly a professor.

So between 2006 harper and 2015 trudeau, one can really call it a wash.
