OT: Soccer thread

If Portugal doesn't get a striker, the US just won't get creamed. Portugal have actually been quite poor overall for years now. This hype always happens before tournies. Ronaldo this, ronaldo that. Then the first game happens and every nation looks like total shit (especially the top ones) because its the first game, because of the heat, because of the pressure etc. You have nations like Germany who can look good from the start because they are a machine but nations like portugal..meh.

The United States are in a tough group, in fact, the group of death. But part of the reason it is the group of death is how solid they are and the fact they aren't a pushover. They just aren't built to get creamed. They are built exactly right..to hopefully take advantage of the early jitters, the more talented sides not looking great early on.

I think Ghana will go through, they are flat out better than the US. Ronaldo is probably the best player in the world right now, and he'll tear the US to shreds.
 
Ronaldo is playing like a man possessed, if he can carry that into the world cup Portugal is coming out of that group. No disrespect to Ghana who have a great squad but Germany and Portugal are advancing. BUT I wouldn't mind some upsets

Thing is, you'd need more than that. The odds of guessing any group of 4 correctly out of 64 random teams is monstrous.
 
The issue is that its a new account. If the person was committed to doing the work they could have posted all the possible combinations for Argentina on the 5th of December, then when draw was done, deleted all the wrong group combos. Since its a new account, nobody or very few people would know the rest were deleted. There is some conspiracy nuts out there so I wouldn't be shocked if someone actually took the time out to do that.

The best conspiracy nuts are already working with the refs on the group stage results.

He would have had to have sent over 650,000 tweets to do that (4 teams per group x 64 to choose from equals a stunning 653,376 potential combinations). He could write a script to do it, but twitter has filters that won't allow more than 100 tweets per hour from an API (basically to stop spamming). Basically, it would take him 6500 hours just to post every potential permutation, or 270 days.

There haven't been 270 days since the World Cup qualifiers were known.

I'm not talking about selecting the whole draw (those numbers get really silly). Just the one draw, and you knew the pots, but 270 days ago?

Though, yeah he did have the one club already "right". We're still down to 41664 possibilities, and down to a more manageable (but still ridiculous) 17.36 days straight of his script running to post every possible combination.
 
He also predicted that Italy was going to be the European team moved from Pot 2 to 4. This one would be easier to replicate of course, but doing it concurrently with the other?

We've seen pretty high level corruption is professional sports before, you'd really be surprised if FIFA was rigging the draw to push match ups? (this draw turned out really, really good for FIFA with 3 groups of death ensuring knock out round level viewer ship for a lot of group stage matches, and with Brazil-Spain on opposite sides of the ledger and can only face each other in the finals.)
