OT: The News Thread

Funny, the Russians interfered with the American elections, and that was a bad thing.

The former president stumps for Macron on a campaign video, and that's ok?

2 things in need of clarification here. The first being the difference between a former elected head of state giving his personal opinion/support without the weight of government office, and when a current defacto dictator tries to sway an election utilizing the power of his office.

As well, differentiating between using a public stumping within full view of the world, and using clandestine operations is also very important. I don't think many reasonable people would be complaining (not at this volume anyway) had Putin simply stumped for Trump. Shit, he stumped for Le Pen and where's the outrage?

Obama should stfu and butt out of the French election.

Period.

Christ, that's painful.

He's a private citizen, and it was totally transparent and legal. Basically the exact opposite of the Russian government stealing data. State sanctioned crime in another country. Geezus.

And frankly, I'm glad he did given what these KGB creeps are *still* doing.

Good outcome.

Enough to put right wing extremist turds in their place, but not so overwhelming that Berlin and Brussels won't ignore threat.

Now Macron must deliver on reform.

Apparently there were a record amount and blank and spoiled ballots, which is understandable. Marcon wasn't a great candidate, but Le Pen couldn't win.

only the brits and yanks - the purported leaders of the free world - have embarassed themselves.

only the brits and yanks - the purported leaders of the free world - have embarassed themselves.

The irony in that is that they're the two nations who most benefited from the world order they created but between shitty education of its benefits and allowing too many of the benefits to be vacuumed up by the new gilded class, have soured their electorates on it.

Support for Macron by age:

18-24 ans: 66%
25-34 ans: 60%
35-49 ans: 57%
50-59 ans: 64%
60-69 ans: 70%
70 ans et +: 78%

So, the older voters are more afraid of what they remember than the future. Good for them.
