Nate Silver points out this is the 6th euro election in a row where the nationalist candidate not only lost but significantly underperformed its polling going in.

Seems like Trump's election has become toxic for all of them.

Dissatisfaction with the EU continues to grow, in the long term, this will eventually reach the ballot box. If dissatisfaction with the EU continues to grow the euro will fall apart. I'm young, there's still time.
 
In 5 years, Agent Orange will be a bad memory, and the first real effects of Brexit will be hitting the UK economy...and Scotland may be asking out by then.

The anti EU forces only need one or two more wins. The remain need to pretty much be perfect. I like the anti EU odds.

Anti EU forces need a win in France or Germany, not just a win or two in random European countries.. If those two stay pro EU, the EU will remain a massive economic block.

Double digit unemployment, on-going migrant crisis, constant threat of radical Islamic terror - but let's go ahead and select a left-wing insider who has been a key figure in the existing government.

I'm not saying Le Pen was the answer but France is in major trouble yet everyone seems to be celebrating this win as if it marks a chance for change.

When it's a "meh" candidate versus a literal fascist white supremacist that's on Putin's payroll...the celebration isn't really much of a mystery.

Macron is a former investment banker. Part of his plan involves lowing corporate taxes from 33% to 25% and easing up on labour laws to give businesses a break.

He's neither right or left wing. IMO, he's actually challenging the left wing/right wing binary BS people like you love to identify with.

Italy isn't an economic power but surprisingly, their leaders have done a great job with government spending -- having reduced future pension benefits by almost 40 percent.

Unlike the USA or rest of the EU, Italy does not have a negative fiscal gap (difference between government's projected financial obligations/future expenditures/federal debt serving, and projected future tax receipts).
