OT: The News Thread

Cold is cold. I spent three years living I the Interlake region about 275 km. North of Winnipeg . It didn’t seem to matter which way the wind was blowing it was cold all winter long. I thought I’d never be warm again. Now I’m not fond of either summer or winter. I could take Fall year round.

I spent 10 winters in northern alberta. Weeks straight of -40. I'm well, well over it.

Love me some summer now. I've still yet to find a temperature that is too much if you're in the shade with an ocean breeze.

I wonder how many decades of the habs not winning it will take before you finally look into the mirror and articulate what a hypocritical fool you are.

Well, Hab fans were making fun of the Leafs drought in the mid 90s at the latest...probably way earlier, but let's use Habs last cup win in 1993 as a pivot.

1993-1967 = marked 26 years of Leaf futility and counting

Today - 1993 = 30 years.

Habs are at least 4 years into Laff territory and they are not winning anytime soon.

TL;DR Hab fans should have started looking in the mirror a long time ago.

imo, you get to chirp other non championship fanbases for: (end of your championship era) + 10 years.

After that, get a fucking hobby already.

For example, the Raptors won in 2019, I would argue that that era of Raptors basketball ended last season with the apparent breakdown of the culture we had been building pre championship. So at most I could hold that title over the head of a Knicks fan until 2032-2033, and even that would be relatively petty.

So for the Habs, I'd argue that era of Habs hockey ended with the Roy trade in 95, giving a good run of chirps that should have ended in 2005.

but some people's fucking hobby is endless chirping

for others, I think your flexible chirping timeline makes a lot of sense

Knowledgeable Habs fans are under no illusions about their team which is why that segment of the fanbase isn't easily pleased. But that segment is aging out. We now have people well into their 30's who have no first hand memories of the 93 Cup, let alone any before it. But everything is relative. Most Leafs fans who were around in 1967 are dead now and people closing in on their 60th birthdays have no remembrance of the 67 Cup. Any way you slice it the Leafs drought will be 26 years longer than the Habs if nothing changes in our lifetimes, and I'm going to milk every single one of them for all they're worth

Somehow I don't think we're gonna convince each other to prefer a particular temperature/moisture level.

I'm in DPs camp tho. Humidity makes me grossly uncomfortable. I can handle cold just fine but it mostly sucks too.. "Cool" is the sweet spot of shared risk.
Except i think we can all agree that you enjoy the moisture of a warm foot encased in a cushy sock inside a comfy shoe.

There is no possible way that can be fun. Impossible.

I assure you that it’s a ton of fun. When you get moving along on your snowshoes, you don’t even notice it’s cold. In fact, you’ll usually start stripping off layers so you don’t sweat too much.

And when you stop & set up camp, just get a rip-roaring fire and a rip-roaring drunk going, and you’re all good.

As for constant stank-ass heat & humidity…

admittedly I've never gone winter camping. but I don't like being cold. and I run very cold. so I am skeptical. but I'd be willing to try it once, cause camping in general is fucking awesome

But summer camping is the worst. It's a never ending quest to get cool and/or avoid mosquitos. The battle is quite literally never won and you spend the entire time suffering.
