OT: The News Thread

yall are making me feel like a peasant with my aeropress and handheld milk frother.

on the plus side, same quality of coffee at home vs in the woods.
In terms of quality of coffee, it's hard to beat an aeropress or a pour over. But in my old age I decided that I needed a 1 button product like CH1. Was lucky to find a cheap one used from some rich dude that didn't give a fuck, would never pay full price (it's a $5000+ product).

TLDR: you're doing it right, don't feel like a peasant.

what's your bean preference these days?

Any local roaster I’m near I’ll grab a bag of their medium roast to try…I prefer a lighter beige looking beans that are dry…(so not oily & dark like all Starbucks coffees regardless of the roast on the bag….I like their coffee + milk drinks, but at home I like it black)…..and I go for anything with notes along the lines of caramel, chocolate, nutty…..and avoid anything with tart fruit in the flavour notes.

I’ll have daily driver as my baseline that every new bag I try is contrasted off of….and currently it’s West End Coffee Roasters out of Vancouver but I can get it via Amazon delivered for free regardless of where I am in Canada. And I like their espresso medium roast the best.

I don't take appointments before 10:30, my clients know to not expect emails or calls answered before 9-930.

I'm just not good at it and I'm done pushing myself to hate the first few hours of my day.

that's awesome....I cope by finishing whatever work is outstanding at 9:30pm, instead of 9:30am

Yeah, it's not uncommon for me to finish shooting at 8-9pm. So anyone who gets that but then expects me to be available when they're up early the next morning can get fucked.

same here...when I first got my machine, I basically tried every Toronto roasted bean just to sample every flavour imaginable only to come back to the classic chocolate note you describe

The classic Brazilian bean flavor profile. I wanted to like some of the more exotic and unique ones but nothing beats single-origin Brazilian beans for me.

my local roaster makes a real nice medium roast espresso bean. which apparently is not legit espresso? I dunno, it's tasty. they have a dark roast espresso too that I like less. local roaster that's been around since I want to say the 1940s. to get to the bathroom in the back of the shop you walk past the actual roasting station, which is cool.

they do deliver out of province too, one of my friends in ON still gets their beans from them.

are we supposed to guess the roaster's name?

aeropress is sublime, but ditch the milk if you want to be taken seriously 🤘

best beans ive ever had was from a small roaster and their Holliday blend had notes of “graham cracker” and while I obviously couldn’t taste that at all, it has its own unique flavour to it that was unmatched.

yeah I'm a firm believer in picking the workday that works best for you. if you're not productive in the mornings, why try and force it?

I gotta say, I’ve taken on Hubermans suggestion of putting off the first cup for 20-60 minutes after I wake, to ride the natural drug your body pumps to wake you….so I’ll pound a big mason jar of water, take the dog out, then start the coffee process….and it has made a difference.

makes the caffeine boost more satisfying or something….and leaves me with a superior focus overall.

caveat: anecdotal/possible placebo, etc.

18% is fucking serious...

Once a month, I'll splash some 10% to my espresso for some machiatto vibes

Starbucks burns their beans. I don't understand the appeal at all.

I've tried, and have incorporated a handful of his suggestions but I'm not waiting an hour for my coffee.

No coffee hipster will ever accept cream or milk. I'll allow it though. Coffee is a beverage that is very individualistic and people like different things about it. So if you like a splash of cream or milk and believe that it only accentuates the caliber of your beans or end product, then who am I to argue.

Last year, I didn't have coffee for a two week stretch and the first cup was like cocaine light.
