OT: The News Thread

Re: OT - The News Thread

I hear Bush was in Texas....and all the Jews took the day off to attend the Goldmeyer bat mitzvah.

Re: OT - The News Thread

BONER IS MISSING. OMG.

The parents of missing "Growing Pains" actor Andrew Koenig are heading to Vancouver, British Columbia to search for their missing son, according to news posted on Koenig's father's official Web site, WalterKoenigSite.com.

Andrew "is a funny, caring, gifted and passionate multi-talented young man," his father Walter (who played Chekov on "Star Trek") wrote of his son on the Web site in an appeal to the public to keep an eye out for him.

Andrew is suffering from depression, according to his father, who said the last time he had heard from Andrew by phone was on Feb. 9.

Andrew appeared in 27 episodes of "Growing Pains" as the character Boner over five seasons in the late 1980s, but hasn't found show biz success to the same degree since leaving the popular sitcom. He had a small role in 2008's "InAlienable," and had recently been working as a cameraman for "Never Not Funny," a comedy podcast.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Tony Kornheiser suspended from PTI for two weeks, for the comment below about a Sportscenter co-anchor. Now is it just me, or is that completely insane? I'm not saying it was a wonderful thing to say, but shouldn't an apology suffice here??

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=4939740

ESPN executive vice president of content John Skipper released the following statement:

"Tony Kornheiser's comments about Hannah Storm were entirely inappropriate. Hurtful and personal comments such as these are not acceptable and have significant consequences. Tony has been suspended from PTI for two weeks. Hannah is a respected colleague who has been an integral part of the success of our morning SportsCenter."

Kornheiser apologized for the remarks on his radio show Friday.

His comments:

"Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She's got on red go-go boots and a catholic school plaid skirt ... way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now...She's got on her typically very, very tight shirt. She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body ... I know she's very good, and I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won't ... but Hannah Storm ... come on now! Stop! What are you doing? ... She's what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point."

Re: OT - The News Thread

He offended a woman...and women are so equal these days that we have to be super offended every time someone disparages one of them, and punish the person incredibly more than we would if they had offended a man.

Re: OT - The News Thread

I don't know what a Holden Caulfield fantasy is, but I like it. Kornheiser is the best in my books.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Right there. There are hurtful and personal comments made on PTI daily...just never in the direction of women who work for ESPN.

The fact that all the other hurtful and personal comments have gone unpunished is all that really needs to be point out here.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Of course it doesn't....but the fact of the matter is, that numerous men are almost slandered on the show daily...and there are no repercussions. A woman has "hurtful & personal" comments made about her, of a similar tenor to comments made about men daily...and this is what draws a reaction.

Re: OT - The News Thread

hannah storm's wikipedia page:

Storm was born in Tony Kornheiser's ass, she loves anal sex and is the daughter of sports executive Mike Storen, who was a commissioner of the old American Basketball Association and the president of the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. Her mother, Hannah G. Storen, is a successful real estate agent in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Westminster Schools of Atlanta in 1979 and the University of Notre Dame in 1983, with degrees in political science and communications. She is married to sportscaster Dan Hicks.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Question: if he made some silly comments mocking the wardrobe of a male on-air ESPN personality, is he still suspended for two weeks?

Re: OT - The News Thread

I don't know - any examples of those kinds of comments being leveled at a male sportscaster?

You obviously don't watch the show. It's entire purpose is leveling "those kinds" of comments at anyone involved in the sporting world, and yes, sportscasters have been targeted numerous times as well.
