OT: The News Thread

Re: OT - The News Thread

No, I don't watch the show.

So, you have examples of male sportscasters being ridiculed for their dress being unbecoming of their age?

Re: OT - The News Thread

I don't know - any examples of those kinds of comments being leveled at a male sportscaster?

What do you think though beleafer? In your opinion do you believe the same storm would have erupted over a guy getting dissed?

(for the record I don't, though I will say that his comments were a little extra harsh...this wasn't him just saying, "man, that outfits stinks")

Truthfully, I have no idea what standards they use for this kind of thing.

If someone were to criticize a black man with similar hyperbole about his physical features, I'm pretty sure a similar response would be had. In fact, didn't this happen a while ago with some football sportscaster?

Re: OT - The News Thread

You kind of made the point yourself. A black man yes, a white man no.
The pendulum has to swing all the way through. I don't like it but I do understand it.
White, male dominated society for most of our history and now god forbid you say something about a woman, homosexuals, blacks... at some point things will even out and we can go back to equally slagging people of all colour, creeds and sexual orientations, not just straight white males.
I'm cool with that.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Males would not be criticized in that way. Furnish one example.

You won't find one. There's a reason for it.

Re: OT - The News Thread

I don't know about sportcasters, but I've heard some pretty rude comments levelled against some of the male fans at games who like to take their tops off and paint their 300 pound bodies with nifty slogans and dance around til the roof caves in.

And manginas, they're an easy mark as well. Tiny mooseknuckles get no respect either.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Fat people might be able to claim such comments are oppressive towards them. Males, not so much.

Re: OT - The News Thread

White males.
But as I said, I really have no problem with a little tit for tat, but at some point we need to lose all of this and just treat each other as we deserve to be treated.
I mean that literally-some people deserve scorn, some people dserve better.

And you expect me to find this, where exactly? I watch the show casually, but it's not like I tivo it or anything. I don't save the transcribed versions of the show in a special folder in my hard drive

Basically..you don't watch the show, have no clue about it's contents...but then challenge someone very familiar with the show and it's contents, but set an incredibly high expectation of evidence.

You're arguing from a position of ignorance man, never a strong place to start an argument from.

Re: OT - The News Thread

True. Internet and the like have created this wall we can hide behind, and sadly, we use it to say and do things we might not face to face.
Mind you we as a species have always been cruel.
Watch a group of kindergarten kids and we see that it starts as soon as we can form groups. In order to form a group we need to exclude somebody right?
Anyways, enough of that...too deep a topic for one liners and sound bites..

But some people do deserve it. Glenn Beck for one.

All I ever argued was that there was no evidence that he was suspended because he offended a woman.

You're the one who put forth the claim that these sorts of things are done towards men without any consequences. Hence, my request for you to furnish the evidence.

Thanks for confirming that you have none.

Re: OT - The News Thread

But that's nothing compared to making fun of a woman's age and wardrobe...I mean c'mon.

Thankfully my black friend came to the rescue...

Re: OT - The News Thread

Anyone who watches the show for 5 minutes knows they take the piss outta of everyone, colour, gender or creed.

To argue otherwise misses the point of the bloody show.

Which is why, as usual, arguing from a position of ignorance is dumb.
