Montague?
There's nothing wrong with having a Catholic school system in Canada, sure, but Catholic parents shouldn't be getting to send their kids to Catholic schools on my dime. That was the big problem in the last provincial election---John Tory was half right. It's absolutely indefensible to publically fund one relgion, and not the rest, and it's unfair that Catholic parents get publically funded religious schools for their kids, while the parents of some of my Jewish friends had to shell out 10's of thousands of dollars to send their kids to a Jewish school. But the solution isn't to extend funding to every religion, it's to take away public funding from the Catholics.
And hey, if Quebec still wants to spend their taxpayer dollars on Catholic schools in their province, they can go right ahead. But the rest of Canada sure as hell shouldn't have to.
I don't think KB travels outside of Ottawa that much with a statement like that. That small minority is getting increasingly larger every year

I'm a Euro muslim and really there is nothing to fear. The muslims here are westernized and secular. The nations qualities, standards, beliefs, make the people.
Canada takes care of its people and the people appreciate that and act accordingly.
The issue in the USA is that their culture is engrained in this idea about "everyone for themselves", so when things get tough, that's what they are taught to do. That is why people at a McCain rally can call Obama a "terrorist" and nobody says a word. Not because they are lucky enough to have freedom of speech but because they promote this idea that they have to win at all costs, because if they don't, they will be slaves to others, etc
Well you're from the Balkans and you guys really aren't Muslims in the traditional sense of the faith. You were conquered by the Ottoman Empire several hundred years ago and forced to convert on threat of death, so I wouldn't consider you religious Muslims. You might be secular cultural Muslims but I've never met a single white person from the Balkans that was "Muslim" in the Jordanian, Egyptian, Iraqi, Lebanese, Pakistani, or Indonesian orthodox sense (and yes I am aware of the different Wahhabist, Shi'ite, and Sunni sects).
Souris...........Montague is only 30 minutes....
I'm not sure if you've been to Ottawa, Arty, but it feels like you're in Karachi or Islamabad at times. Even moreso than in areas of Toronto. It's got a massive Muslim population per capita, so kb would definitely have experience with them from that standpoint.
I grew up on PEI myself..........sister and her husband have a house in Souris actually.
Non Catholics get to send their kids to school on MY DIME! So what's the difference? (Not that my child goes to Catholic school.....he goes to French school......which most people in my area like to bitch about as well....we have our own school board, and the same funding (per capita I would thinkg) as the English schools in the area, but have a much smaller student population)
Edmonton has a huge Muslim population as well so I know how you feel.
My buddy is dating a Lebanese girl and we got on the conversation about Muslims and Sikhs. I asked her why Sikhs wear turbans and she told me that Sikhs refuse to cut their hair until every Muslim is dead and they wear the turban to keep their hair from flying all over the place.
Maybe she was ****in with me but if its true thats pretty ****ed
Well, if were were forced is up to debate, (historic accounts) disagree, most Bosnian muslims believe that there was no force.
You are right though that we are totally secular. And I think I acknowledged that before. I'm not sure what you mean though by "never met a single white person from the balkans that was muslim in jordanian sense" lol
I guess she was ****ing with me then. Can't trust those damn north siders
I meant in the really orthodox religious sense of the word you guys aren't Muslims. I'd compare most Balkan Bosniaks or Muslims to the majority of contemporary Western "Christians." I was baptized and occasionally wear a cross but I go to Church maybe once a year and I certainly am not even remotely evangelical, object to most of mainstream institutionalized religion, etc. Culturally secular in many aspects for the most part. I could be wrong but that's been my experience with Bosnians that I know. If anything the Serbs are a lot more religious with their Christian Orthodox traditions than the "Muslim Bosnians."
