OT: The News Thread

Re: OT - The News Thread

I want to know what happened in the first place...I haven't heard much...are they giving us theories or do they have anything concrete as to what caused the explosion?
Everyone does. And it'll come out eventually. But first they need to cap it and clean it all up.

Well, shit is apparently hitting the fan....

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey's deputy prime minister says Turkey is withdrawing its ambassador to Israel, canceling three joint military drills and calling on the U.N. Security Council to convene in an emergency session about Israel.

The moves come after 10 pro-Palestinian activists on an aid flotilla were reported killed and dozens wounded by Israeli forces.

Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc says Turkey is withdrawing its ambassador on Monday and also calling back a youth soccer team from Israel. He equates Israel's actions with "piracy."

Israeli forces have attacked a flotilla of aid-carrying ships aiming to break the country's siege on Gaza.

At least 19 people were killed and dozens injured when troops intercepted the convoy of ships dubbed the Freedom Flotilla early on Monday, Israeli radio reported.

The flotilla was attacked in international waters, 65km off the Gaza coast.

Re: OT - The News Thread

I don't like that it happened in International waters, but aid to Hamas is just as bad as fighting along side them.

Re: OT - The News Thread

There is no way that that kid in 2005 invented the idea of Pastafarian....

I remember watching this great show about the making of awesome albums, and they were going through Stevie Wonder's "songs in the key of life"

In that show..(1990's filmed or so) Stevie was talking to his guitarists who was this italian guy with dreads, and Stevie jokingly called him a pastafarian (he literally had dried pasta as beads in his dreads). So that wiki post is off.

There's been a 4 year siege in which Palestinians are living on basically a starvation diet. The siege is illegal. These people did everything "right". They didn't violated Israeli territory and tried to work with Israel so that the people who needed it, could get the food and medical supplies.

regardless of your feelings on Hamas, there is no justification for a ****ing military assault on a civilian aid ship in international waters. If anyone in the international community had any ****ing stones, there would be serious repercussions here. Like firing up the Hague.

It's accurate.

Stevie's boy was jokingly referred to as a pastafarian first, but the title didn't carry the recent meaning that the Church of the FSM has provided it.

Hence, when Stevie's guitarist was called a "pastafarian", it had no real meaning. Now it barely has a meaning, but still more of one than there was previous.

Re: OT - The News Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if there were some arms found.

So now you're hoping for reasons that you can justify the military assault on a civilian aid ship?

The aid convoy had agreed on numerous occasions to submit to Israeli searches of the vessels. A few personal small arms would have been no excuse to raid the ship.

Re: OT - The News Thread

They found more human remains on Friday, a construction worker in Baysville found them about 50 feet of off Highway 117. My dad and I were driving by there on the way to the cottage, and there were 6-8 OPP squad cars, and they had the area taped off. The OPP say the remains are the same as the ones found in Hunstville, and Oro-Mondte. Rumour has it, the murder is connected to the Baysville Pavlion, and the cops want the owners to hand over security footage to see if anything turns up.

Re: OT - The News Thread

This is going to get ugly for Israel...I smell serious concessions coming for the Palestinians....

Well, the major kicker here is that the Israeli Military, without provocation, just attacked a Turkish vessel.

Turkey is a member of NATO, and by articles 5 & 6 of NATO's charter, Israel just attacked NATO.

Article 6 was what the US invoked after 9/11, which is why NATO forces are still in Afghanistan. Does Turkey invoke it now?

Re: OT - The News Thread

If there were arms on board, while the ship was in international waters, so the **** what?

The boats would have had to dock at an Israeli facility, they would have been held up as long as humanly possible and searched top to bottom a dozen times before anything was allowed to leave any of the ships, they would have found the weapons and removed them, probably impounding the ships and their shipments along with it and nobody would have said a word.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Gotta go throw some plates, but I've got a bunch of updates to the situation lined up to post when I get back.

Long story short, Turkey has announced that there will be more aid ships and that they will be escorted by Turkish naval vessels.
