And I don't think the pieces hes had to work with are bad at that end. Not this bad anyway.
 
the lineup tonight had one actual full time nba starter, and just an ok one.

the rotation had 3 raw rookies. 1 2nd yr player who doesn't D well. and a few scrubs.

Not sure if Darko is the answer but fuck he has no luck

Team is constantly injured , this year alone he won’t have his core players a game together until late November if lucky

This is true, he's had no injury luck. Defence is hard work and system though. EPM has the Raptors defensive net rating as 6th worst in the league, which is worse than it was last year. We're -2 behind the fucking Nets in defensive net rating. Looking at their roster vs ours...they have 3 complete matadors in their starting lineup including one of the smallest, worst defensive back courts in the NBA in Shroeder + Cam Thomas. Significantly better defensively than us so far.

27th in offensive net rating I can live with because no BBQ together, I get that. Darko hasn't had a chance to get a rotation going, etc. But defensively that shit doesn't matter nearly as much. You can have averagish NBA defence on system and effort. We've got Charlotte carving us up for open 3's over and over again instead.
 
I also seriously dislike this whole thing about making RJ a primary ball handler and playmaker. It entirely goes against what made him so successful after the trade last year. All of the cutting to the rim and spot up shooting is what made him hyper efficient. We have him going fucking iso now. I know we have injuries, but find someone else to handle that role.
