OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Which is dumb because he's a very good player.

That's a lot of cheddar for just a very good player though. He's maybe a top 25-30 offensive player now, with leaky D. Maybe prime Lavine is in there somewhere still, which was a top 10-12 offensive player at one point, but given that he's about to turn 30 and his game has been based on quick twitchy athleticism and shooting while moving, I'm going to say nah on that.

Now, I think Fox has become super, super overrated....so I don't think this is an on court downgrade at all, and I think Sacto actually did really well here. Sabonis is their best player by a lot, and spreading the ball around a bit more will help them imo. Fox is a mediocre or worst point of attack defender as well, so they have a chance to do some work their before the deadline as well.

They need to trade one of Demar or Monk though...so probably Demar.

Well you know how i feel about max contracts. The money doesn't really matter. Big contracts are all similarly movable.

All i know is the stats still like Lavine - that's both in raw production and in the nerdies. Not a great player but a good one. In the same ballpark as guys like Fox and Siakam. None of these guys should be considered unmovable.

And in particular for the Raps, Lavine as a pure wing scorer is kind of our biggest need, so the fit is there better than it was for a Siakam or Fox.

yeah I recall that...I'm a sucker for those tweener guards with bounce and the ability to both shoot and pass

The league has moved towards those guys and away from traditional point guards for the most part. Ball handling is more shared than it's ever been in most offences. The only traditional point guards who stick around now are the ones who can defend their dicks off. I remember I used to laugh at PatBev because he was a 3&D point guard, but that's become a real fucking thing now. You don't need to be able to run an offence, dribble penetrate & kick, etc anymore. Walk the ball up court, space the floor, hit shats, defend the point of attack well and you're a 12-15 million dollar role player. Guys like Monk are way more desired now, when they were "combo guards" 15 years ago that couldn't find many systems to fit in and if they were lucky found 6th man microwave roles to do well in (Lou, Jamal Crawford, etc)

Loftier expectations = Lebron

Maybe, maybe Paul George. If Golden State pulls the trigger, I'd bet on us being involved, and getting Wiggins in the deal.
