OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Is Jaden McDaniels or whatever his name the worst FA signing in the Ujiri era?

Hard to think of bigger wastes of a multi year guaranteed deal. McD's agent deserves every fucking penny of his fee. Dude parlayed like 20 games of McDaniels shooting the ball well while being 6'9 with almost the same name as a better player into 10 millie.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

It's now impossible for us to pass Memphis. So it's up to the ping pong balls now as to whether or not we keep our pick.

Fwiw, here's the exact odds.

1) 9%
2) 9.2%
3) 9.4%
4) 9.6%
5) 0%
6) 8.6%
-------------- If the pick falls below this, we lose it to SAS
7) 29.8%
8) 20.5%
9) 3.7%
10) 0.1%

Slightly worse than a coin flip overall.

The mocks are all over the place right now with the predictable jerking off over NCAA players who showed out in the tournament jumping 5-10+ spots into the high lottery for no fucking reason. It will take a few weeks before they're a lot less messy I think. Though there's been no real consensus outside of Sarr & Rischarer at 1-2/3 for most of the season anyway.

The long and short of it for me at our different potential pick slots is this:

1st: Sarr
2nd: Rischarer (he's falling due to a shooting slump on a lot of draft boards right now, which suits me just fucking fine)
3rd: Rischarer/Topic
4th: Topic/Dillingham
6th: Dillingham/Holland

18th: Missi/Collier/Salaun/Ware/Carter

When they happen, lean into them. But you shouldn't enter a season with the intent to be uncompetitive imo.
Next season with a healthy roster , youth depth , plus some Masai offseason magic ...this team is top 6 in the east

RJ/Quick/Barnes is a dynamic top 3

Team defense is key to success

State of the Raptors is pretty simple imo. There's the core of a play in team here right now as is, and a few decent veteran role players. They need to thread the needle between adding a good veteran or two (like, a real ball player who can make an impact...no more Thad's and Temple's pls) to bridge the gap and give the development program a chance to turn Gradey, this year's picks and any randos into rotation or better pieces.

It's going to be easy to doom cast though because of how the last 30 games looked, but the majority of that has been with a heavily gutted team, even after the initial gutting at the deadline.

A healthy big 3 plus Jake , Dick , Ochai, Olynk is a nice start into next season

There's also some pieces for trade (Brown), S&T (Gary) and assets + cap to make moves. Be interesting to see if Scottie-StarJ-IQ take steps forward as well. That's kind of part of the plan when you have 3 young players like that.

I don't think we need any vets. Maybe sign a vet pg like lowry but that's about it.

But yeah in general, RJ coming over here and suddenly turning into a 60+ ts% scorer is just an amazing development and definitely changes the near future profile of the team. That gives us a legit impact young trio with complementary games to build around with one of them eith mvp upside. That's a core.

And Poeltl/Olynyk is all the center a team needs really. I still wouldn't mind moving poeltl's contract tho.

Dick looks like a potential quality starter too which would really put us in a good spot.

I doubt agbaji or any of the others are players tho.

Gary actually got back to being closer to an even-impact player by the end of the year, but yeah i still don't want us to pay him anything.

Funny thing is either of OG or Siakam would be perfect fits in our starting lineup next year.

Need to start a new core , previous ran its course to be nothing more than just make the playoffs

Plus OG`s elbow is made of glass and Fred/Spicey wrong side of 30

Masai is great at pivoting and retooling on the fly

Quickley / xxxx
Xxxx / Dick
RJ / Agbaji
Barnes / ?
Poeltl / Olynyk

Need some significant upgrading at the guard spot if we want to compete.
