OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Lost in some of the (deserved) Bo Bichette attention

Vladdy:

1st half: 18.6% K rate / .249 avg / .328 OBP / .413 SLG / .741 OPS / 97 wRC+
2nd half: 14.4% K rate /.322 avg / .379 OBP / .562 SLG / .941 OPS / 147 wRC+

2nd half Vladdy is on a 32 HR, 156 RBI pace, with the rates listed above. Doesn't turn 21 until next March. To put that into perspective, those are prime Delgado numbers, which Carlos started giving us hints of as a 24 yr old, but didn't do it consistently (which in fairness, neither has Vladdy yet) until he was 26. As a 20 yr old, Carlos was beating the cover off of the ball in Dunedin (A+).

To put that agin into perspective, Carlos was by most measures, a top 50 hitter of the modern era (1960 to present). 23rd in HR (7th in ISO though...he played a lot fewer games than most of the studs), 45th in wRC+, 29th in OPS. Vladdy is at least 3 and as many as 5 years more advanced than Carlos was as a player. A Delgado career is damn near his floor.

Pearson to AAA.

Our rebuild is coming along. Need to hit on a couple pitchers. It looks like our offense is going to be fine.

What's a pissoff is they have struck out on so many of our assets in trades that our rebuild would be in far better shape.

Heard Passan saying his concern with Pearson is that he doesn’t know of a pitcher who pitches as fast that didn’t have injury problems.

yep

if they would have traded for decent upside pitchers they would be in real good shape

they seem to be good at drafting and developing so why not find those that others in that age range instead of trying to find some magic joey bats late bloomer

Hard to find any starting pitcher that doesn't throw "junk" that hasn't had injury problems. Fwiw, Gerrit Cole has been (arm) injury free for a couple years running now.

There aren't a lot of proper fireballers to compare Pearson to. The only starters who throw that hard are Noah, Cole, Eovaldi, Reyes, Severino, Buehler.

It's a really small sample. Once upon a time Verlander would have made this list and you'd be insane to question his durability, despite having arm issues a couple of years ago.

Excited to see how he does. Would be damn nice for him to develop into an ace for us. Would tie up that EE fiasco with a nice bow for us having to endure watching Morales.

Q: Does he use his arm to throw a baseball?
A: If yes, he's at risk of injury problems.

and if he doesn't use his arm, whatever he uses is at risk of injury. Broken cock, prolapsed rectum, meniscus tear, whatever. If you use a piece of your anatomy to launch a baseball, you're at risk of injury.

Great accomplishment but am I seeing it right that he only had 3 K's? Needs to buy a round of handjobs for the boys if so

Nate Pearson through 7 for first time in his pro career and I would bet that is it. Retired the final 11. Hit 99 three times in 7th. Current line: 7-3-0-0-0-3...88-55. Sensational Triple-A debut. #Bisons lead 1-0. A Wilin Rosario fly to RF died at the track in the 7th. #Bluejays

More perspective on Zeuch and Pearson: They've combined for 16 shutout innings and allowed only three hits the last two nights on the road against a Rochester team that leads the IL in average (.277) and is second in runs. Not a weak outfit at all. #Bisons #Bluejays

Zeuch has always been an underrated prospect imo. Legit good numbers are every level at an appropriate age. Elite groundball rate can make up for a lack of Is.

Buffalo's front 3 of Pearson, Zeuch and Kay might be better than what the Jays have going right now: Thornton--Waguespack--Reid-Foley.
