OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

He only has 7 years service time.

Besides, the Jays have never actually had a problem getting players to come here. Its been their own willingness thats the problem.

The bigger surprise here is that teams trying harder to compete than the Jays didn’t put in better offers. May be nothing, may be something to do with his medicals. Calling Clase a 20ish prospect might just be skewing the fact that he was 21 years old kid in the majors last year tossing a 100mph cutter. Indians probably see a legit closer for cheap for a while. These types of prospects almost never show up high on prospects lists.

either way it’s been a disappointing offseason so far. Like the entire shatkins era it’s been hot air and no action. Getting tired of this shit.

I don’t see us being in on ryu for 4 years. Extensive injury history. I wouldn’t do it either despite how good ryu is.

You must be a cheap coward like Shatkins then. Front load the first 2 years when our payroll is nothing. Then you either have a great bargain or mild problem in the last two

Yeah, it feels like someone would have given him a shot. And for the price, would have made sense to give him a shot, if only to hope he rebounds, and then you flip him at the deadline or next offseason for way more than you gave up. Unless if teams have more data available, but still can never put 100% faith in a guy coming back from injury. Maybe he's done, but maybe he's an ace again.

Thing is, Kluber wouldn't require a "rebound". He was good for Cleveland last year. His rate stats look off the mark from one ugly start out of 7 where he gave up 5 walks and 2 HR in 2.2 innings. His LOB% went from a career 75% to 63.8%. He had a .370 babip ffs. That's 1 part bad luck, and 1 part small sample making it look like he was getting rocked. He had a single game FIP of 3.51 or lower in 5 of his 7 starts.

Texas got a fucking steal here. He's been durable as hell, and has way less wear and tear than a lot of elite pitchers his age have on them (just over 1300 innings. He's on the wrong side of the decline curve of course, just because he's old, but he's declining from Cy Young level, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if his decline was gentle and gradual and he went about his business putting up a couple 4-5 WAR seasons in a row here. We absolutely should have been in the bidding for this guy.

7 years ago today we dealt Thor for Dickey. Smh.

15 years ago today we traded away Vince Carter. Smh would be an understatement.
