OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I can understand not going in on Max, as a rental, and i suspect we're being used as a scare tactic to the NLW teams, but if Gallo is traded and not to the Jays then they failed. Plain and simple.

And if you get Gallo, make sure you get Kennedy with him

The asking price on Gallo will be too high. Gallo is in the middle of a career year and only has one year of control after this year. Giving up numerous top prospects for him would be a terrible decision.

Also they need pitching. A lot of it. Ian Kennedy is good but he's not going to move the needle nearly enough. Pick up a guy like that in the offseason for nothing, trade some prospects then for controllable arms and think about how you might address the needs of a (hopefully) much better team at next year's deadline.

Stay the course. We’ve got lots of time. Our pitching and Montoyo let us down this season. I suspect we’ll see Montoyo canned and additions to our pitching this offseason. We aren’t far off.

Jays equivalent is trading Pearson for a CF rental. Marte is having a great year, but if he returns to career averages it's not that huge an upgrade for Oakland. The main difference is that the A's have the 2nd wildcard spot already and might think they can pass Houston for the division.

I like that Texas is getting even worse.
Don’t love that NYY are getting the upgrade.
Hope that Gallo and Odor can both rot together.

Looks like that would be roughly Orelvis Martinez, Kevin Smith, plus a couple lower guys in Jays terms? Give or take - Orelvis is better than any guy in that deal, but not a ton better I think. If the Jays were in a WC spot I'd do that, but not where they are now.

Nowhere near that tbh.

We need arms not more bats

It’s a good haul for Texas. The pre-season rankings mean almost nothing. Duran, Smith, Hauver and Otto have had great performances this year and have lots of helium. And there are apparently a couple of other younger guys in there too.

It’s hard to put together a comparable Jays package because other than Smith the Jays top guys are all young for their level. I’m sure they would have wanted someone like Orelvis and that’s a non-starter.
