OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I think it's important to realize Matz is having the 2nd best season of his career and that's still just an unreliable depth starter level.

Matz is having a season very much in line with his career averages. I assume by 2nd best season you mean his 2nd best FIP. There's more to it than that, of course. It wouldn't be unrealistic to expect something like this as the norm over a 3-4 year term with some significant potential for fluctuation in either direction.

1. Much better than his averages.

2021: 98era-, 101fip-, 89xfip-, 2.1fwar/32, 2.5ra9war/32
Prior: 108era-, 108fip-, 95xfip-, 1.5fwar/32, 1.5ra9war/32

2. 2nd best of his career

2016: 2.5fwar (3.6 Pace), 2.4ra9war (3.5 Pace)
2021: 1.1fwar (2.1 Pace), 1.3ra9war (2.5 Pace)
2015: 0.5fwar (2.7 Pace), 1.2ra9war (6.4 Pace)
2019: 1.6fwar (1.6 Pace), 1.9ra9war (1.9 Pace)
2018: 0.9fwar (1.0 Pace), 1.4ra9war (1.5 Pace)
2017: 0.3fwar (0.7 Pace), -0.6ra9war (-1.5 Pace)
2020: -0.6fwar (-2.1 Pace), -1.3ra9war (-4.6 Pace)

Ah. You meant 2nd best in order of your personal preference, as set out in the mangled chart above. I won't bother disputing that.

This is the 2nd season of his career where he's on pace for more than 2war (either version), unless you want to include his 6gm rookie year aa a better season.

The problem is that guys like Matz should be lower on the totem pole, we have too many arms that we count on that we shouldn't have to count on...I mean they shouldn't have to be in big situations.

It's easy to ask for, harder to get a couple arms that push guys off the roster while beefing us up.

I thought they were UFA’s

Compensatory picks are good value
Yeah, both are good enough there's not much risk to QO, and while you might get a little more by dealing them now, not too much to really deal with the negatives from selling.

At least with the recent downturn, just means that there's less interest in dealing prospects for rentals.

Not that it makes a huge difference but I'm still glad to see the order changed to what I wanted to see in the first place.

Vladdy should have been #2 from the start imo. Springer leadoff was also the right choice.....hopefully his bat gets back to its usual level.

After those 2 it doesn't really matter but semien next makes sense given how well he's hit.

Kirk should be hitting at least 6th behind Semien/Bo/Teoscar tho.

I’d be tempted to swap Bichette and Semien but it doesn’t make much of a difference. I’d probably have Kirk in the #5 spot in a game with a DH.

Jays owned free agent chump Taijuan Walker tonight. Good riddance Taijuan, didn't need you adding to our pitching depth!
