OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Got a feeling semiens next contract will look horrible in a few years. I personally wouldn’t sign him over 4 years. Preferably 3 years but my guess on the open market he may get 5-6 years.

I think that the Jays probably want Semien back for his bat/defense at 2nd base/ Leadership. But I doubt that it is a "blow everyone out of the water" type deal. Semien seemed like he liked it here, but you know, money talks.

But that is ok, sign Correa too the big deal as he is only 27 (September Birthday) and probably the best overall player available. Springer should be able to put in a good word. Would they move Bo off Short though? You would think they would for Correa...

As for pitching, I am not too excited to get Ray back, for the money that he is gonna get paid, he should be at least league average the 3rd time through the batting order... that looks like the his issue and it will probably only get worse.

Gausman seems to have a better "history" of good performances, so I would try and get him. We know the Jays F.O. has liked him for at least a couple of years now.

I think the more interesting question is: what do they do at the edges/ deeper down the lineup/bench?

Is Dickerson back? Do they trade Grichuk? What do they do with 3rd base and the 4th outfielder. Do they get a left handed bat for a platoon DH spot?

I think they are saving 3rd base for one of their top prospects - Smith, Moreno, Groshans - but I don't know if they will be ready for next year. 2 years from now, sure!

Correa has a history of back issues and wont come cheap

Right, they both had a (b?)WAR of 7 last year. One is 27 and the other is 30. Whom would you rather give 20+ mill too?

I guess you could go after Seager or Story or Baez for 2b.....

Neither is coming here IMO and priorities are in other areas

So a downgrade on offense and defense for... Starting Pitching? Relief Pitching (great idea to spend 20+ mil on the bullpen...)? 4th outfielder?

It must be 3rd base! Too bad that none of those guys can play 3rd base :(

I dont think the offence will suffer that much

Kirk /Springer / Biggio missed over 200+ games this year

Team is still loaded with production , pick up even a decent bat in UFA and RBI`S are still there

Defensively he will be missed for sure , but take care of other issues .

Fix the bullpen from day 1 , with Romano and others in the fold not blowing 30+ fuken games goes along way

Resign Matz , way cheaper than Ray and try to lock up Berrios to a long term deal

Its a huge bonus having Ryu , Matz, Berrios , and the moose from day 1 ......never had that last year

This is why they need another bat. Kirk is a catcher that will platoon with Jansen. Springer was missed last year when they had Semien still, and Biggio looks like a Jack-of-All-Trades-Master-of-None player and bat (probably an 110+ bat). They still need a 130+ bat in there to make their lineup deep (like what they had when Springer got healthy). 5 deep seems to be A LOT better than 4 deep.

Realistically, I don't think the Jays will sign any big FA. These last two years with Ryu and Springer are really the exception for this franchise. Maybe they re-sign Matz to a 2 or 3-year deal. Ray is gone. Semien is gone. They're not going to give 200M to one of the other big FA SS out there. I guess I could see a guy like Gausman that has a bit of a spotty track record at 3/60 or something like that. A semi-big splash. Again, I want Syndergaard, but that's a long shot for a few reasons.

But yeah, if everyone is healthy including Springer, Biggio and Kirk, and if Jansen doesn't get BABIP'd to death for months again, they'll still score a lot of runs. Berrios-Ryu-Manoah-Matz is a solid core for a rotation. They'll need good health again, and an upgrade in the bullpen.
