OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

It does sound like the classic agent-speak to drive up the price for a player that has no intention of coming here.

Then again, they did actually sign Berrios.

Is Verlander still any good?
coming off TJ surgery, so hard to say. But if he bounces back to previous levels, yes still very good.

Verlander won the Cy Young in his last healthy year. Finished 2nd the year before that. So the only track record he has is being amazing or injured. He’ll be 39 next year, but I’d take the risk.

Yeah. Recovery from TJ has a decent record and as much as Verlander is older now, he’s had the last two years to rest his arm. So any potential overuse injuries shouldn’t be an issue. Like, if he had a partially torn labrum or something, it has probably healed.

Damn, I think I want them to give Verlander multiple years.

Personally, i would kick in the extra year, whatever it is 2nd,3rd, 4th even to secure getting him away from NYY, even knowing that last year is likely a disaster.

My one worry is how Montoyo uses his arms, might clash with one of the last true horses like Verlander.

Imagine Charlie coming out to pull him after 6.1 cause of 3rd time thru or something.

We would really want to give 3-4 years to a guy who is 39 and coming off TJ?

I love the name and would bet large on him for a year or maybe two, but 3-4?

No, I don't think 4 years is going to be on the table. I guess if others are offering 2, then maybe someone will offer 3 to set their offer apart. Or perhaps 2 years + a player option.

Ultimately I don't think Verlander is going to be that persuaded by who offers the most term or even necessarily the highest dollar figure but more of the situation, the team, and a chance to cement his case not only as one of the best of his generation, but one of the best ever. The guy has already made $300 million and could walk away now but wants to go out on his own terms.
