OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Watch Seattle win the series now.
It will be a miracle if they do after blowing Game 1 the way they did.

In 1986 when the Red Sox blew it in Game 6 against the Mets, the Series didn't technically end, it merely went to Game 7. But the Red Sox were never winning that game after the debacle in Game 6. A lot of Sox fans never even bothered to watch the 7th game because they knew it was a waste of time. Hell, even if they had won it would still have felt like a loss. Blown games like that break teams in ways which they do not recover from. If Houston had beaten them 8-0 the Mariners would still have a shot today. But blowing it the way they blew it? Not a chance now. The Astros are going to beat them like a drum today, barring a minor miracle.

And I say this as someone who is rooting for Seattle.

You also say this as someone who didn’t realize Luis Castillo was starting today.

Mariners blew the series in one game yesterday. If Verlander had no hit them they'd have a better chance of a comeback but the way you lose is as important as the loss itself. It's one thing to get beaten by a better team but when you are 4 runs up with 6 outs to go on the road against a superior opponent after knocking their ace out of the game early, you have to close the deal otherwise you're finished. You can lose a game to a better team but you can't blow a game by beating yourself. you don't recover from those.

The Jays implosion happened in a best of 3 but it wouldn't have mattered if it were a best of 11. Once they lost that game the way they lost it the series would have been over no matter how many more games were to be played. Same goes for Seattle yesterday. They had one shot and they blew it. Now they won't even come close to winning another game in this series.
Drop that mic now, baby.

Trea Turner might be an even better fit.

I don’t see them signing a big FA this off-season though.

I think pitching is the FA choice again this year. There's actually a fair number of mid-tier pitching options like Quintana, Perez, Manaea, Eovaldi, etc... in FA this year, so I think it only makes sense to try to aim for one of them. If they sign a FA batter, it's going to be more like a Joc Pederson type guy, I think. But more likely, I think Jansen is a perfect guy to dangle for a lineup upgrade. He'd fit into a number of teams, had a solid enough year on the whole, and I think going into next season with Kirk and Moreno is a more than fine place to be in. If you have all 3 of Jansen, Moreno, and Kirk, you're basically relegating Kirk to a fulltime DH.

Oh I know, I just find it funny how they are trying to pump Seattle’s tires all the while they fall flat on their faces.

It's all about "oh you should keep watching because this is such a *close* series". Nobody really wants to go out and say "Yeah, these teams are barely in the same league. If Seattle can scrape together one win they should be ecstatic."
