OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

let's be honest tho, when we all do that thing where we pretend we're not getting our hopes up so we can avoid disappointment, we're usually just lying to ourselves and we still end up disappointed.

so i think i decided im gonna enjoy private jet and sushi restaurant tweets and clown hard until the dream is dead.
this only makes me more depressed. i dislike you for being so causally self aware.

literally zero downside.

So lets assume this gets done.

what, realistically do you want/think they do to fill out their roster?

I think i like Gio Urshela as a stopgap at 3B. The glove is great and the bat could in theory bounce back to the NYY/MIN days, and if he's hitting 9th then, i mean whatever, i value the glove enough where i basically dont really care what the bat does. You can always promote a kid and put Gio to the bench.

for LF, i like the id of Joc on a strong side of a platoon along with, i dunno, whoever, or Michael A Taylor to solidify the D.

2B can be Davis/Cavan

I'd love a swingman sort that can step into the rotation if there are injuries. Seth Lugo and Michael Lorenzen appeal to me..

Anyways back to despair.

Its a minor thing, so very minor, but one thing i really want that comes with Ohtani signing here would be the backtracking of all these US Analysts that have about as much knowledge of Canada that i have of Finland.

The statement will start with. " hey, i love toronto, its a great blah blah blah, "

i can't wait for the political takes.

"why would Ohtani move to a communist dictatorship!?!?!?!"

"liberal shithole California scared Ohtani away from America!!!!!"

Re-up Chapman. fin.

so why be a sports fan at all then?
You can be a fan without letting it run your life and make decisions for you about how to feel.

When I was vacationing in Hawaii years ago I met an older couple from Austin Texas. The wife worked at the University of Texas and told me that she and her family had always been diehard football fans of both the Longhorns and the Cowboys. They used to plan their lives around the team schedules, host watch parties, the whole enchilada. "Then", she said to me "I woke up one day and I realized that how well or badly the Horns did on Saturday or the Cowboys did on Sunday didn't affect my life one bit. So we stopped organizing our lives around football and we're just as happy. That's why we're here sipping Mai Tai's by the ocean in Hawaii right now instead of grilling hot dogs in a parking lot outside the stadium in Austin."

It would almost be worth him signing in Toronto just to shove it in the faces of the freedumbers who think that Canada is a shithole because of Trudeau. Maybe Trudeau could have a photo op shaking hands with Ohtani just to trigger them.

Once upon a time, the Giants were nearly relocating to Toronto...
I remember that well. I even remember seeing Brian Williams (when he was doing the local sportscast on CBLT) showing the viewers a Toronto Giants cap. Had it happened, Toronto would have been a National League city playing real baseball (no DH) and would have an instant rivalry with the Expos.
