OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I still don't understand what Boras is doing. Rumours all along that these guys were asking for ridiculous contracts (Chapman didn't sign until fucking March) and now he and Bellinger take these weird 3 year deals with 2 opt-outs that might as well be 1 year deals. I'm sure nothing close to this contract was on the table earlier, but it certainly is a good deal for the Giants.

Just trying to hype them up and hope someone bit. It worked for Ohtani. But Chapman and Belli (and soon to be Snell and Montgomery) are not exactly "can't miss" options. I wonder if they would have been better to go the other route, leak that Chapman was thinking about signing a 3/60 deal earlier, maybe that would have caused the Jays or someone else to "compete" with that and start to picture them in their lineups.

Yeah, this is an L for Shatkins. A "one" year deal for $18 mil is exactly what this team needed for 3rd base. I hope they like their comp pick that they will trade in 2 years for a vet.

Yeah, like I think you stomach the IKF decision a lot better if Chapman locks in for like a 4 year deal.

Still a chance that Chapman's deal doesn't work out, but it's only 3 years and drops in value. Odds are he'll opt out as long as he doesn't get hurt, but that's not even a bad thing. It's almost exactly the sort of deal I would have wanted to bring him back for.

The comp pick for Chapman comes after the 4th round. So that’s optimistic.
