OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Barger was dealing with injuries last year, but he beasted in 2022. He's a good prospect and 24 years old, if he's hitting early on he will get the call up.

Barger is something in the realm of a Plan E for any team that has legit playoff aspirations. He might put it all together, but he might earn 200-300 AB's by default this year if he's able to put up better than a 85 wRC+

I have said multiple times that it's been a disappointing offseason. But I'm sure as fuck not waiting to fill out my roster until after spring training has already started because Scott Boras tells me to. Matt Chapman just isn't that great of a hitter. Stop pretending that he is irreplaceable.
He’s irreplaceable by anyone on the current roster

Belt has been downgraded

Kiermaier probably is downgraded

Belt is irreplaceable because he put up, if memory serves, a 135 wRC+. We didn't replace that production (in fairness, Belt himself would be unlikely to replace it). That's kind of how this works.

Belt is so irreplaceable he still isn't on a fucking team. Kiermaier is downgraded because his replacement is ... Kevin Kiermaier?
Belt was really good last year but it’s reasonable to think he won’t do it again and reasonable to think Turner can’t do it either

I don’t expect KK to hit as well or play as many games as last year Kk

If they adequately replaced Chapman and put an actual stick in LF I’d have been very understanding of downgrading Belt because it was probably impossible not to

He's been replaced, essentially, by Justin Turner. Probably a downgrade on a per-game basis, but while Belt had a 138 wRC+ last year, he also had a 98 wRC+ the year before. And now he's 35 with wonky knees. Yeah, that's kinda how this works, because baseball is unpredictable and performances go up and down. As we discussed before, I'd say it's a 98% chance Vladdy is a lot better this year. And while much harder to predict and I wouldn't put a number on it, am fairly confident Varsho and Kirk will be too.

His year before doesn’t matter. They need to replace what he did last year and failed

The bottom line is that it is disappointing, and I wouldn't have minded re-signing Chapman at this price. It's unfortunate that Boras is screwing his players over with this greedy bullshit.

And the qualifying offer that Chapman turned down from the Jay's was 20 mil for this year.

He signed basically a 1 year deal for 18 mil.

Schneider and Biggio also had impressive second halves last year. Seems likely they both look good in a computer model. Now we need to see it on the field.

Weve seen enough Biggio on the field to know he's nothing more than an okay bench bat.

His glove is average or bad everywhere, cant hit heat or LHP.

Boras obvious antics didnt force these fucking losers to not just settle, but overpay IKF to be an everyday fucking 3B.

The Tigers figured it out and waited out a better player in Urshela for much less, ditto the Rays and Amed Rosario.

The Jays did the exact same horseshit by settling for Kendrys and Pearce that one awful offseason.
