OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

And the qualifying offer that Chapman turned down from the Jay's was 20 mil for this year.

He signed basically a 1 year deal for 18 mil.
Chapman gets $20M this year.

But yeah, otherwise it’s as if he accepted the QO, with an insurance plan if he has a career-ending injury.

Boras screwed up. Seems like he thought he had so many of the premium FA that he could set the market.

And I still can’t believe IKF was ever plan A as the starting 3B. I think he was more likely meant to be SS insurance in case of a Bichette trade or injury, and they must like some combo of Biggio/Espinal/Schneider/Barger enough to expect them to play 60-100 games at 3B.

I'm pretty sure it is the latter. IKF can provide a middle-class man's version of Chappy defense, but other guys will see time there for sure.

I dont see a gap in terribleness between IKF as 3B and banking on that crop of players.

We should probably take it easy on the schadenfreude. Very much a non-zero possibility that the Jays open the season with a rotation of Bassit-Berrios-Kikuchi-Francis-White. Last year’s SP health was extraordinary.
There is no doubt in my mind the SP cant match last year

This spring has already been grim for the rotation. I don't think there's a great chance Kikuchi doesn't regress back to Kikuchi and Bassitt was good last year but if you look at the numbers, is now regressing year over year and had a decline in FB velocity last year. Also set a career high in IP at 34 yrs old, which isn't really normal. I don't think he'll be bad, but aging curves are what they are and he's 35 this season. This team needed Manoah back to something resembling form and Gausman to continue being a healthy stud.

Pitching is too league wide unpredictable from year to year and injuries are always a concern

A team could be derailed by May
