Still think we'll see Addison Barger play a fair amount of 3rd base this year. Looked into his defensive abilities and it sounds like he's got a strong arm and should be able to handle third.

I still don't understand what Boras is doing. Rumours all along that these guys were asking for ridiculous contracts (Chapman didn't sign until fucking March) and now he and Bellinger take these weird 3 year deals with 2 opt-outs that might as well be 1 year deals. I'm sure nothing close to this contract was on the table earlier, but it certainly is a good deal for the Giants.

Yeah, like I think you stomach the IKF decision a lot better if Chapman locks in for like a 4 year deal.

Still a chance that Chapman's deal doesn't work out, but it's only 3 years and drops in value. Odds are he'll opt out as long as he doesn't get hurt, but that's not even a bad thing. It's almost exactly the sort of deal I would have wanted to bring him back for.

They took a team that colossally disappointed last year and spread around 50M to overpay, in some cases significantly worse replacements at every position they needed to fill with a weak farm system of position players

They have 2 years at best in their window and even if I can call Barger a legit prospect that doesn’t mean he’s ready to make an impact at the MLB level in 2024

I have said multiple times that it's been a disappointing offseason. But I'm sure as fuck not waiting to fill out my roster until after spring training has already started because Scott Boras tells me to. Matt Chapman just isn't that great of a hitter. Stop pretending that he is irreplaceable.
