OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Even if they’re well aware he’s guilty as sin, MLB’s going to keep their eyes shut and ears plugged and desperately hope that this story goes away.

Would be absolutely fucking hilarious though if some reporter or a criminal investigation dug up incontrovertible proof that Ohtani himself was gambling on baseball and that his translator just tried to be the fall guy.

Kinda want to see it happen too.

before he changed his story, the interpreter did an interview where he said he had been gambling for a while and building up this debt, but that he had never bet on baseball. Hopefully for Shohei's sake that is true.

lotsa Shapiro waxing poetic about the renos on twitter today.
It was some grade A bleeble blabble.

Like, yes, the renos are nice, and expensive, thanks for the cupholders and fancy seats. Decent bet the will be on stubhub at half off on weekdays in two years.

He said after they missed out on Shohei that they focused on doubling down on their own talent, which, like, sure, but i didnt realize believing in your own guys meant you couldn't supplant them with anyone good.

Said will keep Vlad/Bo extension talks private, and i assume the reason is because the talks start with " Should we sign them", some nonsense about shared risk leads to a lowball offer, then they leave in FA and the team replaces them with older/worse players at similar money in order to maintain a 500 or so ceiling so that they can use the term "competitive" for the remainder of their tenure

I'll say this much for Shapiro though.

At least he can string a sentence together and at least pretend to say something that is going to resignate well with some fans.

Alot of us are just tired, and wont give a good fuck what he's trying to sell, but at least he's not Atkins. Even though he's responsbile for Atkins...

I agree with most of that, but just objectively, the stadium renos are awesome.

If Shapiro had just stayed focused on that and hired a competent GM (or kept the one he already had) this team would be in really good shape.

If they do manage to compete in the next while, the baseball watching experience will be top notch. Especially in the playoffs. Think 2015 levels of noise and excitement but inside an actual ballpark.
