OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

maybe the projections are biased for the jays i guess.

Or just wrong

- Wagner is a low walk rate 26 yr old who had a 125 wRC+ with a .359 babip last year. Babip regression alone is going to cost him more than 7 points on his wRC+

- Kirk has been bad at the plate for 2.5 years now. His entire projection is propped up by an incredible 1st half in 2022. He's been a ~95 wRC+ since that heater ended. At some point we just accept that's what he is, no?

- Springer sure looks like he's in the grips of career ending age related decline. Exit velo, hard hit %, pull rates, all suggest he's cooked

- Gimenez has one season in his last 4 with better than a 94 wRC+ and that one appears driven by a .360 babip

- Schneider's historic partial 2023 is doing all of the heavy lifting here. The 30% K rate was a huge red flag even when he was putting up peak Babe Ruth ISO levels. When they went back to just averagish power and the K rate stayed the same, well fuck. Babip regression might help some but none of his statcast stuff suggests he was unlucky. Just doesn't make enough contact, and when he does it's just good contact.

- Clement is a career minor leaguer with no stick. His 2023 cup of coffee heater is doing the lifting here. He's not a league average stick, full stop.

Why i hate this.

Wagner was the most interesting of all the AAAA kids IMO, but he gets much less interesting to me if 2B is locked up. Wagner doesn't have the arm for 3B and the prospects of him as a DH, platoon or otherwise, is kinda sad.

Im okay with like one of Clement at 3B or SchneiderfidoClase in LF, not fucking both

Springer is probably cooked

If you think they have the same amount to spend as last year, this is the big get. Gross

Gimenez is a good player but a bad fit, and also fucking expensive. I can also see the cringe Varsho extension on the horizon. Nice to see we are the first team willing to pay for dWAR

Yes, we should sign a DH ( Joc?) we do not have the bats internally to make it work, and also, these fucking morons suck at platooning

BNS and Shi basically saying zero chance for Burnes and we have like 13-23M to spend.

This was the big move.

These clowns, these absolute fucking clowns decided to lean into their philosophy fucking again with this run prevention bullshit. They willfully took on an albatross looking deal for a platinum glove number 9 hitter who can swipe some bags and appear totally cool walking into next season with half the lineup that cant fucking hit again.

Maybe there is a DH or LF left in the remaining budget, but that sure as shit makes the rotation look pretty pedestrian, and while i dig Yimi, anytime Brendan Little is your number 4 RP, you're gonna have a bad time.

They have to be able to grab someone to fill the DH hole. JD Martinez, JD Davis, or someone else like that who can be more reliable, without costing an arm and a leg.

JD Davis is objectively terrible and JD Martinez is probably cooked ( he'd fit right in)

The obvious fit is Joc, but i question if 13M is enough, and even if it is, why would he pick Toronto on a 1 year deal when he probably has 10 or so teams in and around the same number?

The more likely is a reclaimation project like Kepler in LF ( meh), Moncada at 3B ( meh) or Eloy at DH ( meh meh meh) and using some of our glut of INF to get a controlled SP or more RP

What really kills me here is that a team is going for this gold glove all stud defense strategy simultaniously is cool cheaping out on the bullpen, which currently has checks notes.....brendan little as the 4th arm on the tier chart.

These guys are the absolute worst.
