OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Those new shiny expensive seats will be fun to watch 2-1, 1-0 games lol

I think there's going to be something of a philosophical revolution in pro sports over the next 10 years that we've only seen isolated instances of so far. Live sports have turned into the last bastion of "must see" live TV and that's the core value proposition it's offered broadcasters & streamers. The result has been massive revenue increases that require the product to be entertaining. The MLB kind of grappled with this a few years ago with the game length/pacing issue, and I think the NBA is starting to deal with this to a degree with the 3 point revolution reaching it's logical destination this year. The bag is attached to fans wanting to watch your product in large numbers. If that does anything but grow, the bag will start to shrink in a hurry. These new media deals hitting massive numbers is based around multiple broadcasters/streamers fighting with each other for just a slice of the pie. Take even just 1-2 of those bidders away and the pie gets way smaller. It's incumbent on everyone involved to put a product on the field/court/ice that isn't just competitive, but entertaining.

Teams are no longer competing with just each other within their league, or even with teams from other leagues for eyeballs now. They've reached a point where they're competing with every other mode of entertainment out there. This isn't the 90's-00's where your choice of shit to watch in Toronto on a tuesday night is either a Jays game or a movie. There's an entire world competing for your attention every minute of the day.

Can we not do both!?!?

I mean seriously.

For a certain level of bat it makes sense but tbh i actually want our depth bats to get a shot here instead of overpaying a non-elite bat.

Not so much with the pitching. There's nobody on the pitching side anywhere close to blocked that i think has a decent shot at being good this year.

Fuck the budget, spend spend spend spend spend spend spend spend. Just shut up and win.

Money follows winners.

That won’t get that done lol someone will offer him 25 per. Honestly, I despise this management group so much that I’m almost willing to let Vlad go and torch this season just to get a fresh front office. I can’t stand listening to them and waiting every year for pitchers and catchers to report with an incomplete team

Seems like a good candidate to immediately drop back to 30 homers, but that fact probably lets them get him for a discount, and we know how much the Shat pack loves bargains.
