OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Cool. All of you are MBJGAs.

This tread will be very boring during the season, unless it is a total disaster. Then we will hear about the price of eggs forever. I am sure we will just talk Bidenomics though. Damn inflation.

Jays first spring training game is on Saturday! Always sneaks up on you.

I’m hoping Alan Roden makes the team this year, and Santander and Springer end up playing a lot of DH. Not entirely sure about Roden’s defence, he apparently has an above average arm and can play either corner, but he was mostly a 1B in college which is perhaps concerning. The bat is for real though. High hard contact, high OBP.

If somebody like Miles Straw makes the team over Roden, I’m going to be very annoyed.

You know its going to happen.

I think there;s some techinicality about straw's contract situation that would probably trigger one of the luxury tax triggers if we actually rostered him so that might keep him out even if they actually like him for some reason.

I actually think Roden will get every chance, maybe even a favorite, and I like him a lot, but i don't know that he's a lock tbh. These jays don't lack for solid depth options in the position players.

Does it only count toward the CBT ceiling if he’s on the 40-man roster?

What a hilarious trade that was. I don’t even think they’re going to use that extra international bonus money they got. Just took on a $15.5 commitment to Straw for nothing. Which is the main reason I’m afraid he’s going to make the team.

The most frustrating part is that the way the rules are, you have an amount of time to get back up to the bonus pool you committed to, so even if you need that 1m or whatever, you could have waited until he signed before doing the deal. Spending 10m or whatever as a "we believe we are committed" is just dumb.

I hope you’re right about Roden. The bat is clearly ready. 46XBH including 16HR in 451AB last year. Slugged .475 (higher than every Blue Jay except Vladdy). .196 ISO in AAA. As I recall he got off to a slow start in AA (injury maybe) but then tore it up the rest of the year, and even moreso after he got promoted.

Good ole #MBJGAs

Anyway, an interesting tidbit from Shi Davidi

This time around included a meeting between Guerrero and Edward Rogers, owner and chairman of the Blue Jays and Rogers Communications Inc. (which also owns Sportnet and this website), with discussions picking up over the weekend ahead of Guerrero’s 9 p.m. Monday deadline.
