OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

It will not be 5 - 7 year rebuild. The playoffs are easy to make. Blind squirrel, and all.

But in all Seriousness, the "rebuild" will be pretty quick. They have tonnes of money coming of their cap in a year or 2. Something like $88m committed in 2026 and $55 mil committed for 2027.

You can buy a lot of overpriced FAs for that.

But in reality, there will be some cheap salary dump acquisitions.
Nobody wants to play for these fucks.

The length of rebuild will be based on 1) how long until Rogers gets rid of management 2) how long for Rogers to put in management that aren’t tools and are capable to rebuild this team.

My guess we will be 20+ years to bounce back from what has just happened. I don’t have faith in Rogers ability to pick a good person to run basement ops. Will at least take 2 more attempts.

In retrospect, that COVID season messed up a lot of Jays fans brains, and probably brought Ross & co a few extra years.

A 60-game season where the Jays won 32 games, but had a negative run differential. Normally that’s a team that would have regressed to sub-.500 by July and would be selling off veterans at the trade deadline. But MLB decided to introduce a best of 3 play-in series, and some fans have been cheering “playoffs!” ever since. And I don’t just mean the one person here, there are plenty of Jays fans that support this admin despite a decade of failure and the fact that they’ll be leaving the team in much worse shape than they inherited.

1. Sell the team

In 30yrs in charge this ownership has built only one legit contender...and they immediately fired the GM who built that contender rhay same year.

Just to hone the thought.

It's 25yrs as owners, not 30.

1 year of legit contention - 1st place in the toughest division in mlb with by far the best run diff in mlb.

GM replaced even BEFORE the season ended.

A comedy/tragedy so epic it'd make shakespeare jealous.

The last bit, I've been much less upset at Rogers as owners. The team has been in the upper tiers of payroll spending the last bit. Top 5 seems completely reasonable.

But we desperately need new management who can actually spend it wisely. These fools have been pretty terrible.

Here’s an idea. Hire management that has a good track record and has managed a high payroll previously, not two penny pinching, risk adverse, analytical schmucks from Cleveland that have never won anything or had any relative success.

Like, what possible case is there to be made to extend fucking Shapiro?

they speak good boardroom. they make nice cost benefit charts. they understand that the appearance of trying to win is more important than actually trying to win (and so far they've put butts in seats). they'll do what they're told and not make waves and will take heat for ownership.
