OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I think they have one more spot to fill.

But tbh i think Barger needs more AAA time. He's never crushed that level and has some glaring weak spots offensively and defensively.

Unlike Roden who has already crushed AAA and had a very advanced approach already.

Ah schneider already made it so no more spots.

I think they actually made all the right calls here. Even straw is hard to argue against given varsho's dl stint and how good he was this spring.

They ended up needing 5 of these guys due to varsho's injury.

Lukes and Wagner didn't have awesome springs but were decent and have the track records to expect they will hit. Lukes can also field CF and is the only bubble CF that projects as a capable mlb hitter.

Roden and Schneider absolute crushed it this spring and have already crushed AAA before so no reason to send them down again.

Barger and to a lesser extent Orelvis both had very good springs but imo i always wanted both starting in AAA this year until they show they can legit dominate that level. They're the two guys on this list most in need of AAA time imo.

Straw hilariously clearly earned the Varsho injury replacement spot. He even improved as the spring went on and started to show patience and not just babip. Still unlikelu to hit this year but he earned a shot to start.

None of the other guys projected to be amongst the best here and none of them had good springs either to force the issue.

Good calls all around imo.

Lovelady and Barnes make roster, both, but especially Barnes over Yarbrough is absolutey nuts considering our back end of the rotation and lack of multi inning guys/spot starters

I can live with Straw/Lukes but i would have preferred just one of these guys covering for Varsho. That said, if the real reason is they want both Roden and Barger to play everyday and they dont have the PA for both up in Toronto, then i get it, Lukes/Straw can be paid to sit and do nothing.

Barger sucked serious ass last year and has never crushed AAA, with huge swing and miss in his game and no real defensive value. No reason for him to be in the bigs until he earns it imo.

Varsho is starting on the DL, and Straw earned the temporary job in CF with his play. May as well get some value out of him. And if I'm not mistaken, Lukes may be out of options, so they probably figured he's worth keeping around for now rather than lose him for nothing, and it's not going to hurt Barger to get some more time in AAA, as much as I still like him long-term.

Lukes has an option year remaing

I just think its about getting guys PA, i dont mind the position player decisions as much as i do the bullpen. Jacob Barnes over Yarbrough considering the question marks at the back end of the rotation is simply insane. I mean i think i prefer Nance to Barnes

Glad that Roden made it. I really hope he gets lots of AB and some rope.

I was resigned about Straw from the beginning and while his ST numbers are great, he had easily the lowest quality of opponent among the guys on the bubble so far this spring. I don’t think it really matters, they were always going to take him especially with Varsho limited.
