OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Gimenez cleanup is a mood, im not going to get super upset about it, but this sort of feels like an old manager trope of not trusting kids in that spot, but GImenez famously is at best not a bad hitter, and probably is one. Schneider in my eyes, is still shit, no matter how many times a sportsnet guy wants to talk about how he will manage his way, or some such article

Im not going to complain about DFA'ing Pop (trash), Nance (trash) and Robertson (who) since they all probably clear and head to AAA where ideally we never see them, but i do wonder what Steward Berroa means to this FO to keep surviving on the 40 man

Also, Jays made a new offer, still far apart, blah blah blah. These fucking losers are something else, even had the gall to sound optimistic they would sign him

Roden and Wagner in the opening day lineup.

Springer moves to CF to fill in instead of the pure bench guys.

solid decisions to start.

question will be if Roden or Wagner can hit well enough to push Gimenez down the lineup.
Giminez is definitely not their 4th best hitter. And while I don’t really believe in the “protection” narrative, not sure it makes sense to put a guy with a noodle bat behind a relatively low BB/high K bat like Santander.

Doubt it lasts long anyway.

Gimenez cleanup is... something.

Would be really nice if we could get one breakout bat to get cleanup instead, and move those guys down the order a bit. Ideally, if one of Wagner/Roden could actually legit break out, and maybe Springer can bounce back to being respectable, a lineup like:
Bichette
Vlad
Santander
Roden/Wagner
Springer
Gimenez
Kirk
Varsho/Roden/Wagner
Clement

could actually be decent overall. Gimenez/Kirk i like a lot better if they can be 6/7 in the lineup rather than 4/5.
I think Barger tearing up AAA and forcing CLement to a bench role is a big part of any success we have, as is Wagner being a big league bat, and the team knowing when to DFA Springer if that move becomes obvious

It should be Wagner or Roden, but vets gonna vet or something, GImenez had a good spring, but pretending he's an asset with the bat is kind of insane

Kirk, Springer, Wagner, Roden (maybe in reverse order) all make more sense there.

Anyway it’s opening day, I’m not going to let some minor lineup weirdness ruin the mood.

Yeah same, there are still way too many old school tropes with vets/rookies that will never change. Just dont let this shit linger too long if the kids start hitting and or Andres doesnt

we'll see. Gimenez projects very well still and had a great spring. they also like his speed ahead of Kirk to try and avoid Kirk's double play addiction. I also agree strongly with the notion that rookie hitters are best served starting off at the bottom of the lineup, not the top. The difference in the batting order doesn't actually mean a whole lot to a team, but to players it does have a big impact psychologically.

at the moment most of the lineup projects as solid above average hitters, we'll see which ones pop and which ones bust.
