OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

ShiDavidi

From what I hear, Jays and Oliver still finalizing terms. Given holidays and need for physical, unlikely anything gets finished til next wk

Haven't we learned not to take what the media reports as the gospel regarding the Jays and imminent signings?

I'll believe Oliver is close to being a Jay when the contract is officially reported.

That said, it would be a nice pick up, were it to happen.

According to Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Tigers have emerged as a suitor for Cubs' right-hander Matt Garza.
The Yankees, Blue Jays and Red Sox have also been mentioned in recent days, but Morosi hears that the Tigers have quietly pursued starting pitchers throughout the offseason. They were involved in talks with the A's for left-hander Gio Gonzalez, but refused to give up third base prospect Nick Castellanos along with prospect right-hander Jacob Turner. It's unlikely they'll have to pay as hefty a price for Garza, who is only under team control for the next two seasons.

The Toronto Blue Jays appear to have further bolstered their bullpen, adding veteran lefty Darren Oliver to the fold for 2012.

According to an ESPN report, the 41-year-old has agreed to a one-year deal with the Jays that includes a club option, pending a physical.

Oliver has been a key contributor to the Rangers bullpen for the past two seasons, including trips to two World Series. He was 5-5 with a 2.29 ERA in 51 innings pitched in 2011.

It is reported that the Rangers will receive a supplemental first-round pick in next year's draft once the deal is finalized, though the Jays will not forfeit a draft pick.

Jays to give Aaron Laffey a chance to compete for rotation spot in spring. He came up with Indians when John Farrell was plyr dev director

i already reported that...

i hope this doesnt mean we arent trading for a starter....and taking the Tomo Ohka approach

Who knows with AA, he could surprise us all tomorrow. But the trend seems to be penny pinching (which is BS IMO) and looking for internal improvements to carry the day. With trades being the main source of potential new talent. Which should be fine considering considering the depth and talent of this young club in the minors. It is just not as fast as some of us would like it. However, the overall vision is looking good.

I just worry about the reaction from the fanbase with potentially a failed off season. The media and the average fan are pretty pissed with how things have gone thus far. There was a ton of buzz surrounding this team. AA has been given a grace period but there were limitations. We may be at that point.

And before Montana jumps on me for saying that, that is not me talking, that is just the general feeling from the average fan in the call in shows and the media. Right or wrong.

The view of this team to the average person right now is its a team with a lot of promise but without an owner willing to do what it takes to make the high impact moves to put it over the top (which is insane since it just dropped over 600 million to buy two other sports teams). It is also appearing we have a GM afraid to jump into the free agent frenzy weather it be from financial restrictions (which he has said is not an issue) or general lack of whatever.

I want this team to win, I support it. I just worry about its future if it does not start making some serious attempts at winning back its fanbase.
