More than that.

It's convinced a generation of a certain type of people that they are surrounded by dangerous psychopaths.

horror and crime have been bread and butter genres since the printing press was invented

our species has always looked for boogeymen lurking around the corner #survivalmode

You need to check the numbers on Crime Shows vs the field. This happened only in the last 25yrs.

different argument though...tech advances have allowed producers to better address their customer's needs.

TV/Radio were basically guessing for the entire 20th century.... mainstreaming was the way to maximize profits, now niche can be uber profitable as well...so yesterday's niche can be tomorrow's mainstream

nah it's the actual argument - crime shows dominate TV in an amazing way. wasn't like that before.

True Crime dominates because it’s the perfect merger between popular scripted detective shows, but comparatively dirt cheap to make relative to them.

It’s a genre that’s always been enormously popular with the public as CH says….but in recent eras also became one of the cheapest to make/most profitable for television.

that too....no actors....cheapo talking heads.... and stitched together mostly with easy obtainable footage

also translates very well for international market$

What makes me ill, is seeing a very specific type of person and/or responses from friends/family of victims who are talking heads on these shows, and I swear feel like this is their time to shine….or they speak in such formulaic tropes, as to make me gag.

There’s like a palpable lack of grief coming across than there is projection/performance.
