OT: Vacations

I still have no idea what waifu is but it makes me laugh any time I see it.

To the best of my knowledge (and I find the anime dudes weird, but I play world of warships which for some ****ing reason is awash in anime memes) waifu is the specific anime chick that these guys develop legit crushes on. I'm usually a whore for knowledge but I'm going out of my way to not know this time.

Anyway, New York will be a thing after I do Italy/Germany next year. For now I need some Hispanic spice in my life without actually going to a Zika infested or cartel infested city. A nice climate would be nice too.

Yeah, you're a bit of a pussy so any of the unsanitized spots in Mexico I would suggest would terrify you. I keep hearing awesome shit about Medellin though, it's apparently the best place in Colombia to visit. Panama City is high as hell on my list of where I'm visiting next. A friend of mine died in Alacante, Spain last year (unrelated to Alacante itself...he was almost 60, and those were some hard ****ing miles he put on, like 45 years of alcoholism and drugs on that body, jesus) but he ****ing loved the place, it's also high on my latin world list. Ms Eye is dying to go to Havana as well, so that's on the list for next winter by the looks of things.

So yeah, if I only have ~10 days, I'd do Panama City. If I had 14 I'd do Alacante. 7, Havana.

There are a lot of places in South and Central America I'm dying to go to. Medellin is #1 on that list to be honest. But any even slight risk of Zika is a no-go. Medellin has the advantage of a higher altitude so it's less of a risk but no-go means no-go.

I did Cuba a few years ago, in holguin actually and it was terrific. I enjoyed it much more than Havana but I'm a sucker for those kind of hidden gem less touristy areas.

I'll have to look into Panama city eventually.

Ahhh, you knocked up your latin chick. I guess that ruins my argument against forced sterilization going forward.

If you want zero Zika risk I think you're stuck with Spain or yeah something like Medellin that is up in the mountains. Chile, Peru, Equador, etc.

Hahaha not quite but close enough.

And yeah, I just went to Spain in September (albeit not exactly where you suggested) and kind of wanted to go somewhere a bit closer and/or cheaper this time around.

Peru and Chile aren't exactly cheap but **** you've got me thinking now. Peru, in particular, has been on my list for quite some time. May treat myself to first class if I end up going there.

Problem is the lack of Zika free guarantee from Medellin, Lima, Santiago, etc. Odds are a lot less likely but as you note, I'm a bitch that doesn't like taking chances in life.

Not just a bitch. A baby back bitch.

I'm pretty risk averse (no sky diving or cliff diving, etc for the boy) but not like you man. Live a little bro.

Bogota it is folks.

Cheap to get there and not crazy expensive once there.

Elevation high enough to not worry about mosquitos.

Has everything I'm looking for in a destination. Reading a lot about the dangers of Bogota but that's mostly backpackers who stay in hostels in sketchy broken down areas. I've got hundreds of thousands of Marriott points bitch. Luxury or bust.

Okay I'm done for the day.

Havana is cool. Different cool if you catch my meaning. Go for it.

As for Latin America I’ve been to Mexico several times, Honduras, Costa Rica, Belize, Nicaragua (although that was 25 years ago), Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and Brazil.

Latinos are very friendly. Just show proper respect and you’re fine. I don’t get the trepidation.

Stop it. You’ve never been sky diving? You gotta do it. What an adrenaline rush.

FYI, if you’re just going to stay at a Marriott resort there’s no point in going. Just go to the Virgin Islands then.

Oh it's not a resort. Just a nice hotel in a nice area of Bogota with lots to do around it. Credit card churning has spoiled me. I won't do hostels when I can get luxury for free.

The hostels in Bogota are known to be in a very seedy and dangerous area. That's mostly where it gets its reputation as a dangerous city.

I’m 5 star all the way too. I’ve earned it.

When I was in my 20s though I didn’t give a shit. I stayed where it was cheap.

A little bit of both. Diversity is very important for me too, especially when it comes to cuisine so that probably rules out Portland.

I was originally all in on LA but logistically it's a truly awful city and not having a true downtown area is another negative point for me. Wandering in an urban downtown area with lots going on is usually my go-to when I don't really have plans on a particular day.

First time I went to LA, I didn't like it. Because I'm used to wandering in downtown cores. LA is the opposite -- a series of neighbourhoods where you can pursue different interests. Once I adapted to the layout, I liked it more than San Fran, New Orleans, Chicago, etc basically every other US city other than NYC.

Hahaha I know it's more than that. I just wanted to take the opportunity to attack the garbage fake Italian culture there.

That's like saying Toronto is mostly watered down British culture.

Put your Scorsese DVDs away and check it out for yourself. You'll discover a lot of restaurants don't sell calzones.
