OT: World Politics

i've heard some people say that, and certainly this situation is extremely unpredictable and Wagner/Prigozhin are not "good guys". But he is also saying that the Russian government has been lying to the people, and that the war was started under false pretenses. I just don't see why he would want to go back and double down on the Ukraine War since he knows it's all bullshit.

There are also many reasons to think this was an organized coup with his friends high up in the Russian gov't, and not just Prigozhin going Full Rambo.
No, he’s saying that the war was poorly planned and executed and they’re lying about how the effort has gone. He’s not saying that the war is wrong or taking issue with Putins imperial ambitions.

Not sure what there is to be “cautiously optimistic” about. Hopefully the move now is to coordinate a coup and transfer of power with the military. The owner of a mercenary group who (as far as I know) has not stated any political vision staging a coup with only his own fighters and no coherent plan for what happens next should have people pretty fuggin worried.

I just think this guy's been on the ground and knows his side has no chance against the seemingly unending supply of arms from the West. I doubt he continues the war.

Prigozhin is a fucking monster, for sure. But I seriously doubt his goal in overthrowing Putin is to continue the war that led to Putin’s downfall, and that Prigozhin knows firsthand better than just about anyone is unwinnable at this point.

I mean, I guess it’s possible. But at least there’s the chance that he’ll pull out of Ukraine so that him and whatever fellow oligarchs support him can go back to doing business with and making money from the rest of the world.

Whereas Russia’s attempt to conquer Ukraine is absolutely never going to stop so long as Putin’s still in power.

He thinks it was poorly planned and sees a rag tag army. War is good biz for mercenaries. I’m not confident at all that he would just pull the plug.

i don't think his goal is to become the next dictator. He's not a politician. If he's made a deal with people high up in the government, however, i do think it's quite likely that Prigozhin does enjoy giant piles of money.

Understandable. I wouldn’t say I’m confident about it either.

It’s basically a “no chance they pull out of Ukraine” situation with Putin vs a “maybe” with Prigozhin.

In the Russian game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.

That type of planning takes years...decades now with a depleted army.

Also I doubt he has the type of connections and support Putin has built over the years. I am not even confident he'd be the head of government after all of this.

We'll see. He seems like a crazy guy ready to bring a knife to a gun fight for sure.

I’m cheering for the end of this war.

I agree that what comes next could be even worse. I don’t think that’s a good reason to hope Putin holds on to power.

Thinking back, I think the turning point was the couple of strikes Ukraine did on the Oligarch's buildings. That was the beginning of the end for Putin.
