OT: World Politics

so is israel screwing this up

I dunno. I’m still personally of the belief they should keep going until Hamas as an organization has been annihilated.

Would be better if that came about from Hamas surrendering unconditionally, their fighters laying down their arms and all of their senior leadership and the fighters who took part in their terrorist attack taken into custody.

If not, keep the military action going until they’re either all dead or captured.

Remains to be seen. Might be impossible, and this war will end and the same thing will happen in 10-15 years as is tradition.

but the reports were that Hamas walked away from the Egypt talks because Egypt was demanding they surrender control of Gaza. Also that Saudis and UAE are pressuring Abbas to disband PA to install a Palestinian govt favourable to Saudi.

If those are true then Hamas may be done. Obviously they are an Iranian proxy, but the Arab world has supported the current government.

yes fuck hamas for sure.

but is Israel accomplishing a net positive for themselves here?
I think they could, but I don't trust Bibi to be the one to do it.

At the same time, Hamas has to be destroyed. Just wish they were a little more deliberate about it. The way they are conducting this campaign is not going to lead to any sustainable long-term peace, which is problematic. But then again, that may not have been possible to begin with. Would have been nice to see them try at least, but Bibi gonna Bibi.

And of course, the media double standards don't help. Nary a peep from the mainstream folks about Hamas shooting dead an 11-year old in cold blood for having the audacity of trying to access humanitarian aid.

and by destroyed, I don't mean completely eliminated. that is likely not possible. but eliminate or reduce as much as possible the security threat. destroy the tunnel infrastructure and all the existing arms. take out the battalions.

which ought to be done, but no one should trust Bibi to do it in a way that is actually effective.
