Modi has been a prominent member of a explicitly fascist far-right Hindu paramilitary organization (the RSS) since he was a young man.

And when he was merely the head of Gujarat in India, he organized fascist death squads and mass pograms against non-Hindus (particularly Muslims). To the point where he was sanctioned and barred from entering the US.

So none of this should come as any surprise. The longer Modi’s in power and the more powerful he gets, the worse this shit’s going to get.

There are more than enough authoritarians around for there to have been a legit WW3. The biggest factor that has kept us out of one so far imo is regional power politics and economic globalization/integration. Modi is an obvious authoritarian dickbag, but he's also a counterweight to Chinese-Russian power in Asia and India is too reliant on American markets for it's economic growth to risk that going all super team with China (who India knows will always see it as a rival to be beaten, and never as a true ally).

The US is still the undisputed heavyweight champion at turning your stuff into rubble overnight, anywhere in the world and no one else is close in 2nd place. Its all proxy going forward imo or at most big boys like China making tactical bets about what Washington isn't willing to go to war over. No one wants that "back to the stone age for you" smoke with the yanks
