Huge explosions as Israel strikes southern Lebanon

Israel's military says it struck targets near Sidon in southern Lebanon on Monday.
Videos shared on social media showed explosions in the town of Ghaziyeh, about 30km (19 miles) from the border with Israel.
An Israeli military spokesman said the strikes hit weapons depots in response to a drone launched into Israel by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging almost daily cross-border strikes since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

The more wounded, maimed disfigured people displaced from their homes, the weaker becomes the surrounding nearby neighbours and countries who try to help the downtrodden.
Thos weakens all of Europe eventually and decimates the Middle East.
Greed, murder theft and lies prevail.

There are a lot of people that live in a complete fantasyland when it comes to Hamas and Palestinians in general.

One of my favourite phenomenons lately, both in real life (displayed in windows or hung from the front of homes) or online (icons beside a username) is people displaying the LGBTQ & Palestinian flags side by side. I swear, I see it all over the place.

Whenever I see that, I really wish I could transport that person to the Gaza Strip in peacetime with both of those flags in-hand, so they can see how that works out for them.
There are a lot of people who choose to see the good in others and to accept their differences, which is not a bad thing altogether.

The problem comes when you choose to see the good in others and to accept their differences without taking into consideration the bad that comes with it. The people who do that are the first ones to get fucked over without ever seeing it coming.

I mean you can certainly be pro Palestinians not being wiped off the face of the earth and pro LGBTQ2S.

I mean, you can of course because you don't need other people to believe you have the right to live free to believe they have the right to live free. Belief in human rights doesn't necessarily require quid pro quo. But I do think it does need to be mentioned in the fine print that Palestinians aren't remotely pro LGBTQ and the governing Hamas simply doesn't provide any protections of any sort for LGBTQ people and "unsanctioned" violence towards them is out in the open, common, often brutal and generally socially acceptable.

I think people need to give a real long thought as to why THIS is the issue that sparks these reactions. I’m not saying that Israel is beyond reproach or criticism, but where are the Queers for Ukraine? Where are the deep criticisms of Russia’s aggression? Or Iran’s or the Saudi’s. Why don’t we talk about Sudan, Haiti, Syria or Yemen?

It's not a Hamas thing or a Palestinian thing, it's a fundamentalist religion thing. Here in Canada, when schools began promoting inclusion for gay and trans people, the ones who were outside the schools manning picket lines protesting it were Evangelical Christians (including so-called "charismatic" Catholics), Eastern Orthodox Catholics, Sikhs, and Muslims.

To paraphrase James Carville "It's the religions, stupid."

Pretty much all organized religions preach intolerance of gays and trans people to some degree or other. We need to get rid of them through punitive taxation.

Israel is said to be an “agent of American imperialism”. The others obviously aren’t. I think that’s what you’re seeing, in part. There is, of course, anti-semitism.

The underlying point this video purposefully ignores is that Hamas did kill all 1200 when they attacked, whether or not there was "friendly" fire or not. They created the condition of conflict & confusion in which those incidents happened. It's like saying the arsonist isn't responsible for the people who got trampled to death trying to flee the burning building, because they ackshually died before the fire could get them. It's a deeply flawed argument both logically and morally.

Hamas are Israels “Chosen People” for Palestine.
The logic underlying this strategy, Barak said, is that "it's easier with Hamas to explain to Israelis that there is no one to sit with and no one to talk to."

Has nothing to do with what the video you posted is about.

But yes, Bibi nurtured Hamas. But this quote from the article you posted pretty accurately explains the relationship

Netanyahu's critics say that Hamas — with its bloodthirsty rhetoric, open antisemitism and stated intention never to share the land — played into the hands of a prime minister who also wanted to be able to tell western governments that Israel has "no partner" for peace.

So Hamas being bloodthirsty, anti semetic and with a stated intention to driving the jews in the ocean played into Bibi's hands.

Kind of takes two to tango there, no? Bibi didn't turn a bunch of peace loving granola munchers into villains and then used them to drive his domestic political policies. He used actual bloodthirsty villains to do it.

Correct.
The American intelligence community produced at least two assessments based in part on intelligence provided by Israel warning the Biden administration of an increased risk for Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the weeks ahead of Saturday’s seismic attack on southern Israel, according to sources familiar with the intelligence.

One update from September 28 warned, based on multiple streams of intelligence, that the terror group Hamas was poised to escalate rocket-attacks across the border. An October 5 wire from the CIA warned generally of the increasing possibility of violence by Hamas. Then, on October 6, the day before the attack, US officials circulated reporting from Israel indicating unusual activity by Hamas — indications that are now clear.

True, but if Hamas never existed Bibi would have invented them. We need to disabuse ourselves of the notion that Netanyahu is somehow "better" on any level than Hamas. He is just as bloodthirsty, just as unprincipled and just as duplicitous. He isn't going to prison for no good reason. Frankly I don't even know why he hasn't been forcibly removed from office yet. He's conducting a war while having lost the moral authority to govern.

This doesn’t help.
Israel has announced it will pay university students to circulate pro-Israeli information on social media networks, without having to identify themselves as working for the government.

The move was publicised in a statement from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office, the Associated Press reported. Students will receive scholarships to "engage international audiences online" and combat anti-Semitism and calls to boycott Israel, it was alleged.
