Think I may actually disagree here.

They are being shot at because they are refusing Israel advice/orders to evacuate.

The presence of UNIFIL is an asset to Hezbollah. It provides Hezbollah cover to operate in the border regions with impunity, contrary to 1701. And Hezbollah is a chaos agent. Remove their asset, makes it easier to remove the chaos.

If they had actually done their jobs at any point in the last 18 years, situation today would look very different.

And just to add to this - UN peacekeepers can only really succeed when they are welcomed by both sides.

Hezbo welcomes them cause they’re human shields, but has never complied with their mandate.

Israel thinks (justifiably in my view) that they are useless and wants them out of the way so they can clear out Hezbollah and return the residents to northern communities.

So…what the hell is UNIFIL doing in Lebanon and how is it helping resolve the conflict?
