OT: World Politics

Yeah, because that's what you do when you're "winning"; send press gangs into bars to dragoon unsuspecting plebs into military service.

How high do you think their morale will be when they get to the steppe in a month?

Russians are slaves. They’ll meekly go along and allow themselves to be fed into the meat grinder.

They will as long as Netanyahu is in power. I mean leading up to October 2023 he was this close to being put in prison and now here we are over a year later and the sonofabitch is still in charge. Both the US and Israel have a fascism problem.

The people who hate Israel and Jewish people will still be there whether or not Netanyahu is but it would be a hell of a lot easier for the majority of the rest of the population to be more supportive if he was removed and replaced with someone less authoritarian. It's hard to root for one side over another when they're both led by criminals.

I'm pro Israel but I'm also pro 2 state solution. And I'm less pro Israel when it's being run by religious fundamentalists. I don't want Israel run by a kosher version of Hamas. It's supposed to be a democracy. If it still was Bibi's ass would be in prison right now, and not for anything he did to Hamas but for what he did to Israel.

A great example of antisemitism
A great example of the consequences of allowing democracy to be subverted by authoritarianism.

It used to be fairly easy for non-Jewish, non-Arab, non-Muslims to be pro-Israel even if one supported the general concept of Palestinian statehood. But when some far right religious nutter assassinated Rabin, and he was replaced with the fascist Netanyahu, it started being more difficult to be passionate about one's support. Netanyahu has turned Israel into being perceived as the bad guys, not just in the eyes of those who already hated Israel and Jews, but also for people who before hadn't given their pro-Israel support a second thought.

Today, rather than pick a side, I'm tempted to just say fuck it to both sides and let them annihilate each other. Support neither side and just root for both of them to die. I wouldn't entertain such nihilism if not for the continuing presence of Netanyahu.

This was my take on this too, it's the only path to ending the war that preserves both sides. The Ukranians have only one path out of this unfortunately due to having their hands tied behind their backs by the West and that path is a negotiated settlement. In any negotiation, you have to give something up. We know the Ukranians are willing to part with some land, now the question is, can Putin accept NATO membership.
