5-6 years ago this would have been the biggest MMA fight of all time. Now? It would be watching 40 yr old John Jones trying to wrestlefuck 40 yr old Francis to death, and watching them both gas out.

Fight fans have to really, really avoid the urge to ever watch fights like these (and this Rousey nonsense) or else they'll never get that fight when it should be made in the future between whoever the next two monsters are. Why would they risk it when they can circle back at 40, do the fight when it's way less entertaining and meaningful but still make the same bag?

Even with that though, it was a bad stoppage imo. Verhoeven was getting battered, but he looked like he was actively defending himself.

I get why people might be upset, but I got zero issue with that stoppage. Had he not already been knocked down, sure….but he was already on the cusp after the knockdown, and got the benefit of way too long to recover with the mouthpiece nonsense.

Tough call, but I think it’s a perfectly legit stoppage that just feels worse than it is because the round was on the cusp of ending and Rico was winning the fight…but I suspect he was saved from an even worse beating to follow.
 
My only issue with the stoppage was that he was still defending himself and it was right at the end of the round in a fight that he was at least even on the scorecards.

Though yeah, the mouthpiece bullshit after the knockdown is probably the only reason this gets to the end of the round.
 
That's way more than most UFC fighters make. You have to fight twice a year if you're a UFC "journeyman" to make that, you have to win both, and then not count all of the shit they pay for out of their pockets (training camps aren't free).

It's why White will never successfully get into boxing. The top young prospects know what they're worth and won't accept pennies on the dollar to sign. Signed fighters with real promotions won't accept pennies on the dollar to fight whatever fighters Dana is able to get in his stable, and you're never going to monopolize all of the fight talent without spending an obscene amount of money to buy all of the good fighters from other promotions over time.

Deckie is a jew now? I can see how that would cause a rift with he and Jonas, but I don't get what that has to do with not watching MMA.

Yeah this was very similarly my experience, my ultra die hard days died off as the Pride & WEC fighters did, but I still hung around for the big names who were entertaining, so it’s been easier for me to cut the cord that it would have been years ago.

But my buddy was still a die hard, watch every card, tune in for weigh-ins, listed to pods, read the sites every morning, etc…but the moment Dana buddied up with Trump, he cut it all off cold turkey just in principle.

Couldn’t be prouder of him…..because I know my own hypocrisy, and I still can’t do the right thing and stand on principle, when Turki makes the fights I want to see. 😆

I think I could stomach Dana and even the political tilt of the company a bit more if I knew that the fighters I gave a shit about were making life changing money the way top boxers are. Max made 500K for the Topuria fight...that's a fucking championship fight featuring one of the most popular fighters in the history of the sport and he's making 500K? Jake fucking Paul made 50 million that same year. The late career version of GGG (a similar fighter from a legacy, style, and popularity standpoint) was making 7-10 million a fight.

The fuck am I caring for when the reason I care isn't getting paid?
