OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Btw, with the exception of the first weekend of April, there's going to be a UFC card every weekend until June. Plus Bellator's LHW Grandprix is starting soon. Unpopular opinion, I think Bellator's LHW division is better than the UFC's.

It's a very good time to be an MMA fan.

Izzy is going to shock the world in knocking out the polish hammer. Everyone keeps going on about the size difference, but Paolo Costa regularly hits the octagon at 210-215 and Izzy didn't look small in the cage against Paolo. Punchers chance of course.

Nunes over Anderson....meh

Aljo over Yan...I think Aljo just has more weapons. Yan is a good but unspectacular striker for my money.

Rakic over Santos...37 is 37 and he took some catastrophic injuries in the Jones fight and Rakic is a southpaw who likes to chop the leg. Bad combo.

Makachev over Dober

People underestimate the power, he has scary one punch knockout power for his weight class. Not sure if Izzy can take it, as there will be some exchanges. Izzy prob needs multiple shots vs the polish power for a KO. Not sure he’ll be able to kick from the outside for long enough to not absorb a power shot. Also has other paths to victory with grappling and wrestling with that size etc

I am cheering for izzy though

I feel like people keep underestimating Jan. I got him in a 2nd round KO. I like both fighters a ton though. I also like Sterling as well over Yan. Nunes might lose one of these days, but doubt Anderson is the one.

Well, he's 38 in what has historically been a trash division in the UFC. That a few of these guys gave the "I go to cocaine parties and don't train" version of Jones some problems is the only reason anyone in LH is considered legitimate. LH is basically a bag of journeymen that Jan rose to the top of. I don't think he'll lay a glove on Izzy. Big power sure, but I don't think he's as good a striker as Whitaker or Paola is and both were pretty ineffective at getting anywhere close to touching Izzy.

When LH was actually good (prime jones, DC, Gustafsson, Glover, Rumble, Manuwa, etc all in their together), Jan was in his prime and a journeyman at best in it (in fairness, it was a fucking murderers row 2014-16).

Izzy is a guy with GOAT mma striking skills facing a journeyman with a belt.

Question about the weigh in

if 2 fighters hit the required weight at lets say 205 pounds

2 days later on fight night both can weigh 5 pounds more and its legit

They dehydrate themselves to make the weight.

Most welterweights (170lbs) weigh in the neighborhood of 190lbs when they fight.

The only state that's done anything to try to curb it, to an extent, is California.

Paulo Costa, who was Adesanya's last opponent, weighed in at 186 pounds to fight Yoel Romero around noon EST the day before. Around 36 hours later, he weighed 213 pounds.

Rakic smashed the leg enough for Santos to not want to stand at the range he usually does and bang. Should be a soft Rakic decision.

Aljo's corner giving terrible advice too. Aljo isn't ahead, doesn't look great, and needs to calm the fuck down and just apply pressure.
